Assassin’s Creed, especially in its more recent titles, has developed an emphasis on its locales. The early titles had some iconic locations for sure, but only when the series began to experiment with where they were set did they really take into account the historical significance that the games would adopt by choosing to be set in Egypt, or Ancient Rome, or London.

And now, as Valhalla takes the series to the Viking invasion of Britain, the sofa tourism of the Assassin’s Creed series comes to our own shores. Plus, the new Wrath of the Druids expansion takes the title to Ireland for the first time. And it looks like Ireland are pretty pleased about it.

In response to the UK-trotting antics that have been seen so far in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla as it makes its journey to Ireland in the latest expansion pack, Tourism Ireland has taken note, and are using it to their advantage. In a new ad for tourism to the country, the board has used the locations boasted by the Wrath of the Druids expansion pack to promote their real-life counterparts.

The short video titled “Explore Viking Ireland in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Wrath of the Druids” shows the viewer the in-game location and its parallel in real life, taking a look at Dublin, Benbulben in County Sligo, The Giant’s Causeway in County Antrim, and the gorgeous Hill of Tara in County Meath.

It’s not a bad idea to promote tourism to the country, and one that tourism boards would do well to capitalise on. But still, knowing gamers, they might still be a little tough to coax outdoors.
