We sure love a good freebie, and while The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is something of a divisive game, we wouldn't turn our nose up at a free copy.

If you're looking for that perfect Christmas gift or stocking filler for Zelda fans or those who want to get into Hyrule, Nintendo is giving away free copies of Skyward Sword HD this Christmas. There's obviously a catch, though.

How Can You Get Skyward Sword HD For Free?

From December 9 until December 31 (or while stocks last), the My Nintendo Store UK will offer the Switch OLED console with either Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit or The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD for free. There's no word on whether it will extend to other locations.

Given that Skyward Sword HD usually costs £49.99 and Home Circuit is £99.99, you can quite the bargain. The Switch OLED will set you back a hefty £309.99, but if you were planning on getting the console for Christmas, you might as well nab a bargain.

Due to the OLED only having just come out last Christmas, there weren't any deals to be had. A year later, and let the deals roll in. We should warn you though, there are cheaper places than the My Nintendo Store to buy your OLED.

At the time of writing, we've found the white OLED for a low of £250, meaning even if you went and bought a copy of Skyward Sword HD, it will still be cheaper than the deal. Then again, watch out for scams.

Are There More Zelda Games On The Way?

For many, the announcement of Zelda remasters had us thinking about Ocarina of TimeTwilight Princess, or (dare we wish?) Wind WakerSkyward Sword actually made sense because it's chronologically the start of the story, but sadly, we've not seen any remasters since.

Even though we've been warned there aren't more remasters on the way, that hasn't stopped us from speculating that Twilight Princess and Wind Waker will emerge from the depths of the Nintendo closet.

At least our Zelda thirst will be quenched in 2023 by The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's delayed release. Much like remasters, there are continued whispers of a Switch 2/Switch Pro, but we're likely to be just as disappointed.
