The success of Netflix's The Witcher has been unprecedented. The fantasy game series took flight with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, and has since wormed its way into every corner of entertainment. Board games, comic books, and even the immensely popular live-action series of the same name - bringing Geralt of Rivia’s world into homes across the world (even those without a games console).

The unparalleled popularity of The Witcher has led to a peculiar release structure, though - Season 2 isn’t even here yet, but we’re already getting our first hints at what the third season (rumoured to have a direct connection to the events of Wild Hunt) will look like.

And now, we’ve had a hint at the events we could see unfold in The Witcher Season 3, courtesy of its showrunner.

During a panel that took place at the Lucca Comics & Games 2021 Festival, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich gave a little tease of what’s to come from the third instalment in the Henry Cavill-led series.

"What I will say about the third season, the writers are back in Los Angeles diligently working while I am here getting to do this, so I’m grateful for them", said Hissrich. "It’s a really fun season, and it follows a particular book very closely, has a lot of action, some death… some death!"

So, it sounds like although the series is still in the writer’s room, it’s going to be packed with action and violence (who’d have guessed?). We’ve still got a whole unseen series to get through first, but the third addition to the mythos of the Witcher Netflix series certainly seems exciting.

When Is The Witcher Season Two Coming?

We might have to wait a hot minute to see what The Witcher Season 3 holds, as we have still Season 2 to get through first - and it isn’t all that far away. The series is coming to Netflix on December 17, so you’ll have to cram it before Christmas arrives, but at least it’s now only next month.

If the team is already mapping out The Witcher Season 3, it puts our fears to rest that there won't be another outing for Geralt, Ciri, and Yennefer. The Witcher’s release and announcement strategies have been strange, but we’re not complaining - especially if we’ll know about Season 4 before Season 3 launches. It’s confusing, but at least we know.
