CD Projekt Red Casts Doubt On Next-Gen Witcher 3 Update

Fans of The Witcher 3 may be facing a delay for the upcoming next-gen update. Despite continuing to aim for a "late 2021" release date, the game's developers, CD Projekt Red, has said it couldn't confirm: "With full certainty that the production schedule will not change" and push back the release date back. Cyberpunk 2077's latest update might not be out of the woods either.

At the CD Projekt Red's H1 2021 results call (via VGC) on September 1st, Michał Nowakowski, the Senior Vice President of Business Development, displayed a slideshow detailing the company's current financial information and staff projects to investors. The presentation reinforced the original release dates for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt update and Cyberpunk's next-gen version as some time later this year. 

However, Nowakowski warned that he could not disprove the possibility that production schedules could affect the release of one, or even both, updates. 

With regards to Witcher 3: Wild Hunt update, Nowakowski said: "The situation is slightly different in the way that this is being tackled by the external team" referring to Saber Interactive, the developer who CDPR worked with on the original game's Switch version. He continued that: "The development process is ongoing, and we cannot be absolutely dead certain that the release schedule will not change."

What About The New Cyberpunk Update?

When referring to Cyberpunks 2077's upcoming update, Nowakowski claimed that "the development process is ongoing, and we cannot be absolutely dead certain that the release schedule will not change... But for the time being, we definitely are aiming with both titles for late 2021 and I don’t want to be more specific at this moment in time."

Nowakowski noted the reason for CDPR's imprecise timescale was due to: "Lessons we have learned during the past year". Clearly referring to the games initial disastrous release back before Christmas 2020. Not only was the games release date pushed back, but when the game finally hit the shelves players were met with a series of problems on Xbox One and PS4 consoles, including numerous glitches and crashes. Ultimately, leading the game to be pulled from the PlayStation store. 

Hopefully, things will go well for CD Projekt Red over the coming months. If the schedules for both games run smoothly, players could be adventuring through the freshly updated worlds of both games by the end of 2021.
