God Of War Director Appears To Tease A Mandalorian Game

Cory Barlog has to make a video game based on The Mandalorian. Putting it simply, this is way. After years working on the God of War franchise and helping make the muscular Kratos one of the best-developed characters in the wide world of video games, don't you think it's about time Barlog put his magic touch on Din Djarin?

While the galaxy far, far away, has been ticking along nicely since Star Wars: A New Hope in 1977, things took a jump into hyperspace with Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm and the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015. The latest trilogy premiered to harsh critiques, but away from the Skywalker Saga, there's been a reinvigorated love for the Lucasverse thanks to the likes of Jon Favreau's The Mandalorian.

What's the Mandalorian game rumour?

With E3 2021 just around the corner, gaming fans are looking for even the slightest whisper of a potential announcement ahead of time. Barlog is either majorly trolling us all or is cleverly setting up a Mandalorian video game. In a series of tweets ahead of E3, he's been sharing some cryptic gifs related to Fav's hit series.

As well as a gif of Werner Herzog's The Client, there's a gif of the mysterious Armorer. Although Barlog doesn't give context to his seemingly random outburst, followers picked up on the potential tease of a Star Wars video game. One person even joked, "Comicbook.com is going to write an article in 10min about how Cory Barlog confirmed that Santa Monica is working on a Mandalorian game". Of course, we need to take everything with a major pinch of salt from the surface of Crait.

Only recently, we covered how a Mandalorian game was reportedly in development. The bizarre rumour started doing the rounds when a Mando Funko Pop was seen in the background of Xbox boss Phil Spencer's office. The internet was quickly overrun with the idea that an Xbox-affiliated studio would be putting on its best beskar. Then again, with Barlog being the Creative Director of Sony's Santa Monica Studio, this would seemingly debunk that idea.

Will there be a Mandalorian game?

There are now two conflicting reports of an Xbox or Sony-exclusive Mandalorian game. Either one or both of them is wrong, but that doesn't mean someone, somewhere, is planning to blast off as the stoic bounty hunter. Last year, Barlog said he'd love to make a Mandalorian game and explained how someone needs to make a single-player game where you get to fly around the galaxy in the Razor Crest ship and upgrade your arsenal.

Barlog was likely just spitballing ideas, but there's every chance someone's taken his ambitions seriously. We can only speculate about what's on the way to this year's E3, but remember that 2021 has already seen the resurrection of Lucasfilm Games, rumours of another Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order game, and confirmation Ubisoft is working on an open-world Star Wars game.

If not a game based on the Mandalorian, we should at least get the chance to revisit the canned Star Wars 1313 that was supposed to give Boba Fett his own outing. For the time being though, Barlog has enough on his plate with the delayed God of War: Ragnarok. Barlog felt the wrath of angry fans, and with the Ragnarok delay still being raw, now may not be the best time to announce a wholly new franchise.
