The Force is strong in these rumours, with Respawn Entertainment finally hinting that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 is finally on the way. Back in 2019, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order became a surprise hit in the sometimes disappointing legacy of Star Wars games. With Respawn known for its work on the Titanfall games, it had just released Apex Legends when Fallen Order released. Despite the developer's newcomer status, it's become one of EA's big hitters in recent years and is up there with DICE's work on the Star Wars: Battlefront games in terms of importance for the publisher.

Having sold over 10 million copies, Fallen Order also has the honour of being the fastest-selling Star Wars game of all time. In an era when EA has been slammed for microtransactions and relying too much on multiplayer, Fallen Order was a breath of fresh air. Set in the increasingly popular gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New HopeFallen Order followed a young Jedi called Cal Kestis - who was one of the lucky few that survived the Jedi's near-extinction with Order 66.

While we'd always expected a Fallen Order sequel, news that one was on the way started officially doing the rounds last year. With the news that Lucasfilm Games has also raised from the grave, there couldn't be a better time to announced Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2

What's the latest with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2?

The latest update comes courtesy of Respawn Senior Producer Blair Brown. Posting on Twitter, Brown shared job descriptions for a number of roles at Respawn. The reason it's caught everyone's attention is due to the fact he specifically mentioned Star Wars. With Fallen Order 2 and a potential Battlefront 3 both being teased, it could be either game. However, it's important to remember Respawn only worked on Fallen Order, so it would be strange to hand over from DICE on a continued Battlefront

There's also the more out-there idea that whatever Respawn is working on could be something completely new set in the galaxy far, far away. With Lucasfilm Games back up and running, we already know Ubisoft is hard at work on an open-world Star Wars game. EA has doubled down on its commitment to carry on making Star Wars games, and with Fallen Order being a huge success, a sequel would be an easy sell. For the time being, we're left speculating about what this mystery project could be.

What else do we know about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2?

Whatever way you look at it, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 was always going to be on the cards. The end of the first game neatly queued up a continued story with Cal. In an earnings call last year (via IGN), EA CEO Andrew Wilson referred to Fallen Order as the "first title in an entirely new franchise". In the same call, CFO Blake Jorgensen said the game had "significantly beaten" sales expectations, meaning a sequel was always a no-brainer.

The fact Brown is looking for staff to join him suggests that whatever this cryptic Star Wars title is, it's still a long way off. Don't be expecting Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2 to suddenly drop in the middle of 2022. Then again, the idea of the title coming a few years down the line would be a nice boost to next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in the middle of their life cycles.

Looking at Cal Kestis, he quickly became a fan-favourite addition to the expanding lore of Star WarsShameless' Cameron Monaghan played Cal in voice and likeness, which has led to calls for him to reprise his role in live-action for The Mandalorian. There's no news on what storyline the sequel could take, but with the games fitting into the official canon of the movies and TV shows, we're expecting a few famous faces to also pop by for a lightsaber battle.
