Elon Musk Says Cyberpunk 2077 Made Him 'Feel Weird'

While CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 has divided critics since its launch in December last year, even one of the game's biggest fans have admitted the sci-fi shooter made him "feel weird". Jumping into the futuristic world of Night City might look like it was a game built specifically for Elon Musk, and even though the business magnate has a cameo in the game, he's not a fan of its more realistic ideas.

Aside from his work with Tesla and SpaceX, Musk is a co-founder of Neuralink. Sounding like it's pulled directly from Cyberpunk 2077 itself, Neuralink is known for its work creating implantable BMIs (brain–machine interfaces). The company was originally focussed on treating brain diseases in the short-term, however, it's now branched into ideas of human enhancement. In Cyberpunk 2077, nearly everyone has a neural implant, which apparent hits a little close to home for Musk.

Why does Cyberpunk 2077 make Elon Musk feel weird?

Discussing all things Cyberpunk 2077 with the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, Musk explained, "I was playing Cyberpunk, the game, and I was like uhhh this is pretty close to home here. Like, oh man. Like, is this where it leads? It might lead there eventually. I'm just saying for now, it's going to help people who really need it". Don't worry though, don't expect to turn around one day and suddenly find everyone walking around like some sort of Terminator.

Explaining where the human race is heading, Musk added, "You'll see it coming". Still, it's crazy to picture a future where we'll all be walking around with a chip in our heads. Is Musk working toward this kind of technology though? Only recently, he unveiled his Neuralink plans to place a chip inside a monkey's skull to help it play the classic Pong. More than just playing retro games, Neuralink has much bigger implications for human evolution and how it could drive us toward a Cyberpunk 2077-inspired future.

Is Elon Musk creating Cyberpunk 2077 in real-life?

Sticking with the futuristic themes, Musk is no stranger to Cyberpunk 2077 after it looks he managed to sneak a cameo into the start of the game. CD Projekt Red had a number of high-profile cameos away from Keanu Reeves' starring role as Johnny Silverhand. As well as hiding Silent Hill and Death Stranding's Hideo Kojima, Musk seemingly appears at the start of the Corpo lifepath when he crosses paths with V. Even if Musk feels a little "weird" about Cyberpunk 2077, he's definitely got ties to the game.

Alongside saying you can play Cyberpunk 2077 on his new Tesla Model S, who could forget the Cyberpunk-esque Cybertruck? Musk's futuristic vehicle was unveiled in 2019 and had a pretty disastrous launch where its "unbreakable" windows were smashed and Tesla stock prices dropped by 6%. In an alternate reality, it's easy to imagine Neuralink to being a villainous corporation similar to the Arasaka Corporation. Thankfully, we don't think it is, and we hope Musk isn't a real-life Saburo Arasaka.
