Do you remember when No Man's Sky had a comeback of biblical proportions? Well, now it's over to CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 to get the same treatment. Up there with PlayerUnknown's BattlegroundsSie of Thieves, and Rainbow Six: SiegeCyberpunk 2077 looks destined to come back from the dead in 2022.

First released (rather shakily) in December 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 was more than a little disappointing. After being delayed numerous times and angry gamers sharpening their pitchforks, it felt like CD Projekt Red released Cyberpunk 2077 in its unfinished form simply because it had to. There was a typically massive launch, and although updates have ironed out the kinks, few have stuck with the sci-fi shooter the entire time.

How Is Cyberpunk 2077 Beating Call Of Duty?

Alongside Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok, one of this year's biggest releases is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The might that Call of Duty has is seemingly impassible, with it being the best-selling gaming franchise in the USA for the past 14 years. Although some think it will be dethroned by Elden Ring this year, there's a surprise outsider creeping up on it.

Modern Warfare 2 marks the CoDverse's return to Steam, meaning it's wasted no time soaring up the charts and passing 100,000 concurrent players. Beta access was included with the game's pre-order, so it's not a shock that the title has been topping Steam's best-selling games.

Over on the Steam charts right now, Cyberpunk 2077 is clear of Modern Warfare 2. Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in sixth place, while Modern Warfare 2 languishes in fifteenth. It's great news for the once-abysmal Cyberpunk 2077, but remember that Modern Warfare 2 also has Battle.net with similar player numbers. Still, neither of these even come close to FIFA 23 in poll position.

Is There Any Stopping Cyberpunk 2077?

Analyst @BenjiSales noticed that Cyberpunk smashed a concurrent player count of 136,724 players, but that's since climbed further to 1,052,388 players. This in itself is a massive beat of The Witcher 3's 103,329. Then again, Cyberpunk 2077 is still a long way off the record-breaking 3,257,248 PUBG holds the crown for.

The returning popularity of Cyberpunk 2077 comes from the recent arrival of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners on Netflix. Bearing in mind we still don't have the much-delayed Cyberpunk 2077 DLC, it's baffling to think how big the concurrent player count will be when it eventually lands. The Phantom Liberty DLC is due for release next year, so it could be a long night for Night City.
