CD PROJEKT RED Reportedly Covered Up Disastrous Cyberpunk 2077 Launch
We all remember where we were when Cyberpunk 2077 launched. Probably. The release of the game absolutely rocked the industry, as we saw the hopes for the next incredible RPG dissolve and collapse in front of us.
Cyberpunk 2077 was ambitious beyond anything we'd ever seen before, and yet, the swathe of bugs and glitches made sure to positively bury the game almost immediately. The poor shooter didn't stand a chance especially as PlayStation stripped the game from its online store. We know the launch was absolute chaos - but as it turns out, it was worse than we'd ever known.
Did CDPR Lie About Cyberpunk 2077?
A whistleblower has sent YouTuber Upper Echelon Games a whopping 27-page document that outlines some of the issues that plagued Cyberpunk 2077behind the scenes, and it has revealed the extent of the truth that was presented when CD PROJEKT RED claimed that it had some issues with its quality assurance team.
The document alleges that the QA team, Quantic Lab, exaggerated the size of its teams working on Cyberpunk, suggested that the team was much more qualified than it was, and that it had a daily quota of reported bugs - leading to CD PROJEKT RED prioritising bugs that weren't particularly important as a result of Quantic Lab trying to turn in more reports than were necessary.
The claims explain a lot, especially after the team's claims that QA was a big reason that many bugs didn't get caught at the time. This isn't the first time CDPR has been in trouble, and remember, its own shareholders tried to sue it over apparently misleading them.
Who Knew Cyberpunk's Development Was So Bad?
Of course, we knew that the creation of Cyberpunk 2077 saw some troubles - but if these allegations are to be believed, it proves that this game was destined to fail. It's incredibly sad, especially as the sci-fi shooter had potential unlike anything we'd seen in the years before it, and it has now become clear that it isn't just the lofty goals that caused CDPR to stack it.
Of course, it's convenient for CD PROJEKT RED to blame the work of others for the game's misses - but it's a believable report, and it makes the loss of Cyberpunk 2077's quality even sadder. Who knows, maybe these problems could be taken care of in the future? Even with its new-gen upgrade, we may be stuck with a Cyberpunk that suffers regardless. Sigh.
