While you could pick pretty much anything and do well if you're good enough (outside of a few weapons of course), there are some guns that sit firmly at the top of the meta. Considering that gunfights are often won by fine margins in MW2, you're going to want to ensure that you've got the best guns and attachments to gain that slight advantage.

Best MW2 Ranked Play Assault Rifle Class

It appears as if the general consensus for the best Assault Rifle for Ranked play in MW2 is the TAQ-56. While historically the M4 has taken the spotlight, it has fallen slightly out of favour in the latest game, giving space for a new SCAR-esque weapon to step up.

Here is the attachment set up that you'll want to be using for the TAQ-56:

• Underbarrel: Demo IMP-44 Grip

To nobody's surprise, the weapon that joins the TAQ-56 at the top of the meta is the Vaznek-9K, and that has been abundantly clear since the game's launch. If you're looking to dominate in short spaces then you really can't get much better than this.

Here are our attachment choices for the best MW2 Ranked play SMG class with the Vaznek-9K:

• Underbarrel: FSS Sharkfin 90
• Muzzle: XRK Sandstorm
• Stock: Otrezat Stock
• Rear Grip: Demo-X2 Grip

As you can see, we have only opted for four attachments as opposed to the maximum of five, purely to keep the gun as mobile as possible. One of the most frustrating things about MW2 is how every attachment seems to penalise mobility, so sometimes your best course of action is to simply cut them out.

Considering this gun is best in close-quarters scenarios, recoil is a bit less important - however if you're struggling a bit with the gun's kick, you could opt for one of the barrels to increase the stability. Attachments like the Sharkfin underbarrel are perfect though, as they have no downside, freeing you of any tough choices.
