Where were you when The Witcher put a nail in its own coffin? While things seemed to be going well for Netflix's fantasy series - and Henry Cavill was arguably the perfect Geralt of Rivia - things have started crumbling like someone has put a curse on the series. We're guessing it was House of the Dragon

Season 3 of The Witcher isn't even out yet, but knowing it'll be Cavill's last, thousands of angry fans are signing petitions and threatening to boycott the series when Liam Hemsworth takes over as Geralt. Worryingly, the bad energy is branching out from the main series and is already affecting The Witcher: Blood Origin

Why Is The Witcher: Blood Origin Being Review-Bombed?

The trailer for The Witcher: Blood Origin focuses on the action some 1,200 years before the events of the main series. Following ancient Elven civilisation before its demise, we'll also get to see the creation of the very first Witcher in the series.

There's an all-star cast that includes Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Sophia Brown (Marcella), and Lenny Henry (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power). The trailer is typically Witcher-esque and looks like a faithful spin-off, however, the comments section doesn't make for pleasant reading.

Mainly raging about Cavill's imminent departure, one fan wrote, "Henry is a national treasure, the writers room is disposable." Another added, "I like the part where Netflix said the writers aren't the problem, it's the fans and the books," while a third joked, "I love the part where Henry slams the writers head into the table and screams 'I'm not locked in here with you, YOU'RE LOCKED IN HERE WITH ME!!' Truly awe inspiring."

What's Going On With The Witcher?

It's clear that anything that comes from the ever-expanding Witcherverse will get dragged over the coals due to the Cavill situation. Things have gone from bad to worse, with one of the show's ex-producers saying the writers actively dislike Andrzej Sapkowski's books and CD Projekt Red's games. Others have pointed to some melancholy comments from Cavill that suggest he was more than over the situation.

We'll likely never get to the bottom of what really went on, but with Cavill reportedly trying to leave after Season 2, his exit sounds like it was on the cards for longer than we thought. As Blood Origin keeps The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich on board, she's become something of a hate figure among the loyal fan base of Cavill stans. Sadly, we need to accept that Cavill is out, meaning we should try to enjoy Blood Origins... if we can. Even Michelle Yeoh might not be able to save this one.
