It was the news that no one saw coming, but with Henry Cavill out of The Witcher Season 4, some think he's swapping the Continent for the Seven Kingdoms. Is it true, is Henry Cavill joining House of the Dragon Season 2?

As a huge fan of the source material, many had cast Cavill long before he officially donned the mantle of the White Wolf. He's led Netflix's The Witcher series since 2019, and while Season 3 isn't even out yet, we know it will be his last. Everyone is asking why is Cavill stepping down to be replaced by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia.

Is Henry Cavill Joining House Of The Dragon Season 2?

If returning to the DC Extended Universe as Superman wasn't enough, Cavill is determined not to leave any roles for the rest of us. Alongside reports he could be suiting up as Shephard for a live-action Mass Effect series, the Master of Whispers claims he'll be riding into King's Landing for House of the Dragon Season 2.

Speaking to Josh Horowitz for the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, Cavill was grilled on whether he's been secretly cast in House of the Dragon Season 2. "To be fair, when I was watching House of the Dragon, I was like, 'I feel like a lot of these guys could make really good Witchers...'" said Cavill. "I think it would be cool to be in Westeros, I really do. I don't think there's a place for me in there, though." So there we have it, it doesn't sound like he's destined to swap Geralt's blonde wig for a Targaryen one.

HBO's Game of Thrones spin-off is the talk of the town and largely torched the competition that was Amazon's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The credits have only just rolled on the 10-part series, but we're already looking ahead at Season 2 potentially arriving in 2024. It's possible Cavill is lying to us to keep his casting a secret, but to be honest, his answer sounds like a pretty definitive no.

Why Did Henry Cavill Leave The Witcher?

Following Cavill's surprise departure, The Witcher fandom has dived straight in with the conspiracy theories. Although it's likely he's simply too busy being locked into the DCEU, others think there's been a slow breakdown between Cavill and those running The Witcher. Only recently, there were reports that the writers hate Andrzej Sapkowski's books and CD Projekt Red's games, which is why there are so many differences.

They've started piecing Cavill's interviews together. Notably, he told Total Film, "This season, I really wanted to make sure that we represented the book's Geralt more accurately, and that we saw him speak more. I pushed really, really hard for that." He's also spoken out about trying to make Geralt an "amateur philosopher." The ever-passionate Witcher fans will always claim that showrunner Lauren Hissrich wanted to make her own series while Cavill wanted to stay faithful to the source material, but ultimately, we might never know.
