Let’s be honest for a moment - Bethesda hasn’t given players much of a chance to feel any nostalgia for Skyrim. The Elder Scrolls modern classic has been reissued and redistributed to such a degree, that seeing it reappear on a new console (or one that already has the game, for that matter) is more of a running joke than it is a true game release.

And no release better exemplifies this than the one announced last night. While the surprise announcement of Skyrim: Anniversary Edition has taken the internet by storm, most of us are asking...why?

Skyrim: Anniversary Edition is now officially on the way, and bringing with it… some content. The birthday celebration comes with the special edition of the game that includes all of Skyrim's officially released DLC packs, and over 500 unique pieces of content from the Creation Club, meaning you’ve got a whole slew of new spells and quests to undertake.

But there’s one new piece of content that’s got a lot of attention.

Fishing Is Coming To Skyrim - And Fans Are Ecstatic

The most crucial piece of the Anniversary Edition puzzle is that, finally, fishing is coming to Skyrim. Managing director Ashley Cheng has said that it’s something he’s always wanted to do in the game - “You don’t have to dive into the water and click blindly anymore. You can now grab a fishing pole, do some fishing quests. It’s a great addition to the game, it’ll be free to everyone and it really adds to the immersion of the world.”

It’s not just Cheng who’s excited about it, either, as fans reckon that the fishing alone is worth the price of admission.

Fans are glad to have a reason to head back to Tamriel with The Elder Scrolls, and with a feature that fans have wanted for so long. So jump back in with your pole in hand - or just wait for Skrim: Super Ultimate For Real This Time Edition a few months from now.
