The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall Remake Is Here For 2022
Fans have been waiting a long time for the next Elder Scrolls game, and chances are, they'll be waiting a lot longer. The fantasy series is one of the biggest in the world for a reason, with Oblivion and Skyrim defining the RPG for generations of gamers.
Now that we know that a sixth game is officially on the way, we can't wait to see what the new adventure across Tamriel will show - but it's still years away. In the meantime, we have to make do with what we have. Luckily, one modder has taken what we have with The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall and given us a remake that is something amazing.
What Is The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall Remake?
The history of The Elder Scrolls is a little inaccessible at this stage, what with the games being pretty old and clunky - but one modder is seeking to change that for one game in particular. Given that Daggerfall is 26 years old, it's easy to see why modern tech might struggle running it.
A brand new piece-together of Daggerfall has just landed on Good Old Games, which is an unofficial modder effort to remake the classic game and is called Daggerfall Unity - GOG Cut. "Play a reimagined version of the all-time classic from the Elder Scrolls series," reads the game's description on the GOG storefront.
"This ambitious project, launched over a decade ago by Gavin 'Interkarma' Clayton, is aiming to bring the unique experience of the classic open-world RPG game to a new generation of gamers." The high-definition visuals are made in Unity (hence the name), which adds new lighting, longer draw distances, and support for mods. That's not all though, as the biggest quality of life improvement is smoother controls for first-person. But, there's even better news. It's incredibly easy to play.
How Do You Play Daggerfall Unity?
As detailed by the dfworkshop website, all you have to do to play the game is download it from Good Old Games, install it on your PC via your own copy of Daggerfall and you're good to go. 3D games have come an incredibly long way since 1996, and although the graphics will always hold back Daggerfall these days, it was lightyears ahead of its time.
A project like this is long overdue, as most fans of the franchise have barely looked backwards beyond Morrowind - and now, players have the chance to explore the early days of The Elder Scrolls. Here's hoping some more Elden Ring classics get the same treatment, because let's be honest, it's going to be a LONG time until we get to play The Elder Scrolls 6.
