It was a shame to see Overwatch 2's full launch hindered by a range of DDoS attacks onto the servers, causing disastrous bugs and errors during what was supposed to be quite a positive re-shaping of the Overwatch franchise. But that doesn't quite mean that there's no coming back. You might want to come back.

Overwatch 2 has now decided that, after a disastrous launch weekend, it is going to begin giving back to the community already, enticing players to jump back in and continue the celebration of the sequel's arrival.

With promises of commitment and developer support, Blizzard Entertainment has revealed a range of free content is coming your way - in addition to a full team fixing any bugs and issues.

Blizzard Issue Free Skins In Overwatch 2

Clearly a response to the bug that locked the Overwatch 2 hero pool, Blizzard is now releasing a free skin for all players to enjoy. If this wasn't enough, there's a weekend of double XP to begin grinding through the levels with your chosen character.

The Legendary Cursed Captain skin for Reaper is one inspired by the depths of the ocean and the landlubbers that rule it. Akin to something from the murky side of Pirates of the Caribbean, the Reaper skin will likely strike fear into players scared of the Curse of the Black Pearl.

The skin is ready to be redeemed as of October 25, and you can get it until the end of Season 1. The gifts keep on coming, as Blizzard says many double XP weekends are coming in this period too.

Overwatch Devs Apologise For Rough Launch Weekend With Freebies

Acknowledging the rocky road so far, Blizzard said, "We've been blown away by your excitement, and incredibly moved by the sheer number of you experiencing our game. But we know we have run into some significant issues as well."

"We apologize for any issues players experienced around the game’s launch," it continued, adding, "Your feedback has been vital, and we’ll continue to listen to our community." Overwatch 2's promised support stands it in much better stead from other titles in the last 12 months - which have suffered horrendous declines post-launch.

Despite its turbulent opening weekend, fans can take solace in the fact that Blizzard isn't making the same mistakes as Halo Infinite and Battlefield 2042. For some though, it might simply be too little, too late for those Overwatch 2 players who've already been burned by a lacklustre launch.
