The changeover from Overwatch to Overwatch 2 has been dramatic. Though fans have been looking forward to the arrival of Overwatch 2 for literally years now, they weren't quite expecting that the original game was going to go down with it.

It's a shame to see the iconic hero shooter go, especially as the quality of the new game is still up for debate, but we move on to new adventures. Or at least we try. Because Overwatch 2 has suffered at the hands of hackers in its opening moments.

Has Overwatch 2 Been Hacked?

The launch of Overwatch 2 was expected to be big, that much is true - but the team behind the game wasn't able to predict the whopping DDoS attack that it suffered during it.

Mike Ybarra, the president of Blizzard, took to Twitter to thank fans for their patience with the predicted server issues - before quoting his previous tweet revealing that the game has suffered from an attack.

"Unfortunately, we are experiencing a mass DDoS attack on our servers," he says. "Teams are working hard to mitigate/manage. This is causing a lot of drop/connection issues." But, it doesn't end there, as Aaron Keller from the Overwatch team revealed later that more attacks had taken place.

Overwatch Suffers More DDoS Attacks

As if the one wasn't enough strain on a AAA hero shooter at launch, Aaron Keller explained on Twitter how a second attack decimated Overwatch 2. "We’re steadily making progress on server issues and stability, as well as working through a second DDoS attack," he says. "We're all hands on deck and will continue to work throughout the night."

Here's hoping that the Blizzard staff are being treated well enough, especially as it was recently revealed that the company has been withholding raises from staff members campaigning for unions. Chances are, the focus here will be on Overwatch 2 itself. It's hard to imagine that this is the launch that the team were hoping for, to be honest.
