Well, it's here once again. It's time for Overwatch to get spooky. Halloween is upon us - a season that the Blizzard hero shooter has always been fond of - but things are different this year. We're finally in the arms of Overwatch 2, a game that is admittedly very similar to its predecessor but with a few key changes.

The typical spooky loot boxes are now gone for good, with players instead being offered some scary events and Halloween-themed items peppering the digital shelves of the in-game shop. But guess what? Fans aren't happy.

Overwatch 2 Players Hate The Game's Halloween Event

Though the first game could recycle the same spooky tat every year and get away with it, it looks like players aren't so willing to forgive its sequel.

The change to how players earn their skins, from loot boxes to outright purchases, was thought to be a good idea. All of that was before players saw the prices. In particular, a new witch-themed bundle for new character Kiriko is coming at a cost of $20 for players - without actually offering anything that justifies the cost.

Players have been reacting on Reddit in a predictably peeved way, and fans are rallying up to declare that this new system is deeply flawed. But that's not all that is disappointing players.

Kiriko's Halloween Skin Is Basically A Mercy Skin

The skin that is at the centre of the argument against the Overwatch 2 in-game shop isn't even all that creative, as it turns out. Though fans would still be keen on the cosmetic if it weren't for the price, they've pointed out just how similar it is to a Mercy skin that we got for Halloween some time ago - as she was introduced as the Witch in Junkenstein's Revenge.

This skin kerfuffle is indicative of the worst of premium games making the jump to free-to-play - and though Blizzard is likely to reduce its prices as a result of the backlash, it still won't make fans feel much better. Sigh.
