With the World Cup fast approaching, football fans around the globe are looking forward to pressing pause on their usual calendar to follow their country through the trials and tribulations of what comes with becoming the best nation in the world. With that in mind, notions of a World Cup have been sparked in esports. Now, one Call of Duty community figure is wanting to get the ball rolling.

Davis "Hitch" Edwards, also known as Hitchariide, has become quite a powerhouse in recent years for hosting non-official Call of Duty esports events, especially during the pre season.

The OpTic content creator is set for his biggest event ever with a Black Ops 2 throwback LAN featuring Seth "Scump" Abner, Ian "Crimsix" Porter, and many more household superstars. But, he's already aiming for something bigger and better. OpTic Hitch fancies a Call of Duty League World Cup.

Following his Black Ops 2 throwback event, Hitch has now eyed a World Cup as something that he'd love to host. The football fanatic could even make everyone play as the upcoming Messi operator.

Appearing in his Flycast podcast on Optic's channel, Hitch said, "CDL, if you want to throw an all-star weekend or a world cup, please! I will do everything for free. Please hit me up."

"I think every year, or as a two-year thing, you could throw a world cup," he added.

Call of Duty League World Cup Proposed Teams

The prospect of a Call of Duty League World Cup isn't necessarily a new one, although it is the first time a renowned tournament organiser has discussed it.

Some potential teams could see USA field the entire FaZe squad or the LA Thieves championship-winning roster, Canada put together half of OpTic and a former LAG duo, and Team England combine two ex-Toronto Ultra players with their native London Royal Ravens mates. A surprising addition as a possible winner is Mexico, which would also boast two out of eight of the 2021-22 all-star team.

Outside of the USA, Canada, Mexico, and England, Australia will come in as one of the better contenders given their star man Amer "Pred" Zulbeari was crowned as Major III MVP and featured in the all-star team, although it does highlight a need for a CDL expansion into more regions.

There are more countries represented in the CDL and Challengers too. Scotland could boast Minnesota ROKKR's Cameron "Cammy" McKilligan and ex-London star Sean "Seany" O'Connor, the French phenom Paco "HyDra" Rusiewiez would feature for his nation, and Flordia Mutineers' new recruit Javier "Vikul" Milagro would be joined by some other recognisable names for Spain.

A Call of Duty World Cup isn't something that would even require the CDL's backing either. Given that Hitch has already proven his worth as a tournament organiser, we could see this come to light following the 22-23 season's climax.
