Some ideas are just too good to pass up on, and while the chances of Konami reviving Silent Hill look slimmer by the day, the brilliant brainwave of Norman Reedus joining the frightening franchise has just been brought back to life. Warning: flashing imagery is featured in this article.

While Reedus is best-known for playing the shaggy-haired Daryl Dixon in AMC's The Walking Dead (and its upcoming Daryl-centric spinoff), he also lent his likeness to the role of Sam Porter Bridges in Death Stranding. Hideo Kojima's trippy title wasn't Reedus' first foray into video games, with the actor also being part of the canned Silent Hills.

Why do fans think Norman Reedus is coming back to Silent Hill?

The legacy of Silent Hills is almost unrivalled - making it one of the most notorious video games that never happened. Although the project officially kicked the bucket in 2015, loyal Silent Hill fans have refused to let it go. Now, a cryptic Instagram post from Reedus himself has relit the fires beneath this tortured town.

Posting on the social media platform, Reedus shared a bizarre clip of himself dancing alongside Robbie the Rabbit. Up there with the Silent Hill Nurses and Pyramid Head, this blood-soaked rabbit is one of Silent Hill's most iconic additions. Reedus gave no further context to the post, other than a caption that read, "gnite".

Robbie the Rabbit appeared in 2003's Silent Hill 3 as the creepy mascot of the Lakeview Amusement Park. There are two schools of thought here. Either Konami is working on a next-gen remaster of Silent Hill 3, or Reedus is back involved with the future of the franchise. Remembering that Reedus has nothing to do with the studio, it seems odd he'd have the inside track on a potential remaster.

Could Norman Reedus return to Silent Hill?

Safe to say, gaming fanatics were over the moon with even the slightest notion Reedus could be part of a Silent Hill game. There's already a tonne of hype about a series revival, with various sources claiming multiple Silent Hill projects could be in the works. The rights issues get a little complicated, and with reports that Sony rejected Hideo Kojima's next game idea, the former Silent Hill overlord could be moving over to Xbox

When Kojima parted ways with Konami and Silent Hills was finally given the boot, Konami promised it would "continue to develop the Silent Hill series". Nearly six years later and Silent Hill remains silent.

Only recently, there were hopes that Blue Box Games' mysterious Abandoned could be a covert Silent Hill game in the vein of Cloverfield's viral marketing. Elsewhere, Bloober Team's new partnership with Konami is confirmed to have nothing to do with Silent Hill

Even all these years later, the Silent Hills Playable Teaser (known as P.T.) still carries a lot of lore. The internet exploded when Sony said it had once toyed with bringing P.T. to the PlayStation 5, proving there's an appetite for a resurrection. While Norman Reedus suiting up for a mythical Silent Hill reboot is just a dream/nightmare for now, it's an idea we just can't shake.
