It sounds like the flames of the Silent Hill franchise are still burning low, with the smoldering survival horror still refusing to open the doors to this twisted town. Although a recent partnership between Konami and Blooper Team stoked the fires of hope, not everything is as it seems.

While Silent Hill was once the jewel of the Konami crown alongside Castlevania and Metal Gear, all three have slipped into the depths of development hell. Silent Hill has been dormant since 2012, and although there are continued rumours that multiple games are in development, Blooper Team might not be at the helm (yet)

Is Blooper Team working on a new Silent Hill game?

It's true that Blooper's partnership with Konami has kick-started a reinvigorated slate of video games, however, the developer apparently isn't working on a new Silent Hill. As shared on Reddit, there are three games in development.

The first is codenamed "H2O" and was originally thought to be Layers of Fear 3. After some research, it turns out this was just the placeholder name for 2019's Layers of Fear 2. Considering the game took place on an ocean liner, "H2O" starts to make a little more sense.

Up next is "Black" - which is described as a first-person game that contains Medieval themes. There are apparently multiple endings and combat that will "always poses a challenge and builds tension, suitable for a survival horror game". If that wasn't weird enough, it apparently features aliens. It sounds like a particularly out-there premise, but battling aliens as a Medieval knight could be a Demon's Souls and Alien: Isolation crossover we never knew we needed.

Finally is "Dum Spiro". The name comes from the Latin "dum spiro, spero”, which means, "While I breathe, I hope”. The game apparently takes place during WWII in the the Litzmannstadt Ghetto that was established for Polish Jews. You take the role of an imprison boy who "struggles against all odds in order to hide and save his little sister”. There are three acts and a choice system will be at the gore of the game.

Could Blooper Team still be working on a new Silent Hill game?

It's unclear when the two unannounced titles will be revealed, but either way, Blooper team has its plate full. Those who refuse to let go of Silent Hill have been trying to guess if any of the above could be a cryptic tease of a new Silent Hill, with wild theorising claiming "Black" could be one. We're not so sure!

There's the idea that Blooper Team could still be tinkering away on a return to Silent Hill in the near future, but with the Creative Europe Media Programme in the European Commission providing funding to these three, it seems that's it for what Blooper team has in the pipeline at the moment.

It's a tragic case of what could've been. By now, we're sure you all know about the cancelled Silent Hills and Hideo Kojima's departure from Konami to form Kojima Productions. Things moved ahead with Death Stranding, and while there's plenty of buzz about what's next for Kojima, there have been worrying whispers that Konami is in trouble.

A union between Blooper Team and Konami has sparked hope that this nightmarish locale could spit out a new adventure, but for the time being, we'll have to stick a pin in it.
