Oh, he's just perfect, isn't he? While the whole of comic book fandom is still reeling from the casting of We're the Millers' Will Poulter as Adam Warlock in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it turns out Eidos-Montreal's Guardians of the Galaxy game is also set to include that blonde-haired beau.

Following the disappointing reception of Marvel's Avengers, you'd forgive us for being a bit sceptical that Square Enix is AGAIN working on a Marvel game. While Insomniac continues to show its rival how it's done with the ongoing Spider-Man franchise, the publisher has a lot of ground to make up. Hopefully, having a different developer on GotG could be its saving grace.

Where is Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy?

In the Guardians launch trailer, there's a brief shot at the end of what looks like a long-haired character wearing a cloak. It didn't take a genius to work out this was probably Adam Warlock, however, Eidos-Montreal went quiet on the subject. A number of famous faces from the pages of the comics are also along for the ride, but if Mantis and Cosmo the Space Dog don't take your fancy, Warlock could be a major player.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, Mary DeMarle, Senior Narrative Director on Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, previously explained: "We certainly did our homework, and we certainly immersed ourselves in the lore of the comics, and we read tons of stuff and everything".

Even though it's clear a lot of familiar faces from the comics will be making an appearance, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is expected to be a lot like the movies and tread its own path. "We created our own universe, our own story within our universe, and so then we had to start filling it up with stuff", continued DeMarle. "So sometimes we fill it up with Easter eggs like the Dazzler poster, and sometimes we put a little more significance into it."

Is Adam Warlock Guardians of the Galaxy's big bad?

Those at the top couldn't keep the secret for long, with the game's official account welcoming Warlock to the family. Teasing "friend, enemy or frenemy", it doesn't actually paint Adam as the game's de facto big bad. Remember, the comics have also featured Warlock as various shades of good and bad. We're guessing there will be someone else pulling the strings.

Guardians of the Galaxy's release date is less than two weeks away, so we don't blame Square Enix for going on the assault with marketing. We know the cult-like Universal Church of Truth is a major antagonist, and remembering the organisation worshipped Warlock's evil alter ego called Magus, it's not too much of a leap to make.

We've also seen the Universal Church of Truth's Grand Uniter Raker and a woman known as the Matriarch, while one point of the game will also feature the decision on whether to sell Rocket or Groot to Lady Hellbender (who is another villain from the comics). Still, the addition of Warlock is well-timed for Poulter's upcoming debut and those who aren't familiar with the comics to brush up on this golden god.
