There's something in the air in Minnesota when it comes to Call of Duty. The home of the Minnesota RØKKR, pandemonium always unfolds when the lights are shone in the state, having seen their last event play host to the RØKKR Ressurection, which gave fans an incredible grand final best-of-nine reverse sweep from the home team, a feat that had never been seen before.

Now, Minnesota's stage has provided us with yet another weekend of impossibilities becoming real, as Los Angeles Guerrillas defied all logic to take home the shield.

Los Angeles Guerrillas Win CDL Major 2

Two years in the bottom four was the destiny for Los Angeles Guerrillas, but hope was restored going into the third season of the league as a team littered with hopeful prospects and seasoned veterans excited their fans.

However, a bottom-place Major 1 finish combined with the damning news that Pierce "Gunless" Hillman would be unavailable for the upcoming games, with possible surgery on the cards, gave things a bleak look once again

Step up the young gunner Kris "Spart" Cervantez, as the substitute redefined the meta with his choice of weapon to spearhead the Guerrillas to arguably the best lower-bracket run ever.

Toronto Ultra, London Royal Ravens, Seattle Surge, Florida Mutineers, Boston Breach, and finally Atlanta FaZe all fell to LAG, as the notorious strugglers re-wrote the script to become Major 2 champions, and allow Spart to hoist RØKKR's champions shield above his head.

Los Angeles Guerrillas Break CDL Records In Impossible Major 2 Win

Los Angeles Guerrillas' run to the championship is being dubbed as the most impressive win in CDL history, having fought through the most stacked lower bracket ever with a substitute on the roster. Along the way, with so many games played, the Guerrillas smashed a long-standing CDL record amongst many personal accolades.

Being the first team to win a championship with a sub since 2015 - as only OpTic Gaming had done before when they won both ESWC and Gfinity 2015 with Ian "Enable" Wyatt - Los Angeles Guerrillas also broke the longest streak for Search and Destroy victories in CDL history, as their undefeated ten games better the previous record of nine set by Atlanta FaZe.

Austin "SlasheR" Liddicoat also broke a record of his own, as the accomplished veteran lead the team to victory. The 2016 World Champion got his hands on the eighth championship of his career and became the only person in Call of Duty history to lose the first round and win the event, twice.

It also came as a first event win for both Asim "Asim" Obaid and Spart, who was playing in the Challengers scene just one week ago.

With the Guerrillas' success, only one question remains as to whether they will opt to continue their journey with Spart, or will Gunless now fancy a piece of the pie and look to retain his spot? Either way, the Guerrillas are finally beating their chests, and the future is bright for a franchise previously marooned to the dredges of the jungle.
