August 1, 2021, will go down in Call of Duty esports history as the day we all witnessed arguably the greatest game ever played.

Minnesota Røkkr and Toronto Ultra played out a spectacle to behold in the CDL Stage V Major, as fans were allowed into the arena for the first time in 16 months. Back on a live stage and with the season's penultimate Grand Finals poised, Røkkr completed the first-ever best of nine reverse sweep, hitting home five straight maps to come out victorious and take home the spoils.

With a jubilant yet professional burst of celebrations, both in the arena and back in Minneapolis, Røkkr's players and fans alike showcased what the CDL has been missing for so long, and put Call of Duty esports back into the spotlight, just in time for champs.

At each end of the roster in terms of experience, Røkkr's SMG duo of Dillon "Attach" Price and Eli "Standy" Bentz were full of praise for their fans, following their success.

For Attach, his illustrious career has seen him perform in front of some huge crowds. However, after 16 months hindered in his home set-up, he has relished playing in front of fans again, adding that he was proud of Røkkr's support.

In a press conference, Attach said: "I've had some crowds go against me to some root for me. It's always great when a crowd is rooting for you to give you extra motivation. There you hear the people, and you see the people that want you to win so badly every time you do something great. They go crazy and so you want to replicate those moments and keep doing them over and over again."

"This crowd was amazing. I was really proud of everyone in the crowd this weekend. I feel like with LAN disappearing for a year and a half, they came back with a vengeance, and they made sure to bring the energy this time. So I was really proud of them for that."

On the flipside, Standy's outshining performance on stage was his first event in front of supporters since entering the league as a rookie earlier this season.

The 20-year-old MVP continued to say "It was honestly a great experience also knowing that for the majority of our matches the fans were cheering us on and were on our side, I know it's not always going to be like that, but it is really good knowing that the crowd was like behind us and cheering us on.

"It kind of gave me a little bit of motivation when playing. And I also think that the year went for me, going from online to majors with no fans, and then majors with fans, the transition has been really good for me, like easing into it.

"It's a feeling that you can't really describe. But, in the moment, you're just living up to the hype."

Røkkr's head coach Brian "Saintt" Baroska branded the victory as the "Røkkr Ressurection" after being seemingly down and out, preferring it to the "Minnesota Massacre" that was thrown into the mix by CDL caster Clint "Maven" Evans.

With these types of games coming to fruition just before the World Championships, the CDL season is heating up to have one of the most intense finals in its history.

All eyes are now on Minnesota Røkkr, to see if they can continue their form and upset the giants in the most important event of the year.
