It's time to drop a nuclear warhead of hype on the gaming world, as those behind the beloved Fallout: New Vegas have once again teased the potential of a sequel.

Although 2010's Fallout: New Vegas started as a rogue spin-off while Bethesda focussed on Skyrim, Obsidian Entertainment's neon-splashed dystopia was definitely worth thee gamble.

It's been 12 years since New Vegas spun the roulette wheel, but it's still cited as much more than just a Fallout game - as one of the greatest RPGs of all time.

We've heard lot about a mythical New Vegas sequel, and while nothing is official yet, New Vegas Director director Josh Sawyer has some ideas about where we'll go next.

Where Would The New Vegas Sequel Be Set?

There's plenty of scope to continue the story of the Courier and the political troubles of New Vegas, but according to Sawyer, New Vegas 2 wouldn't even be called that.

Speaking to Kinda Funny Games, Sawyer explained he'd like to tour California or the Midwest. ""I love Fallout, I love the setting, I could see myself working on it again but you know, we'll see where the future takes me," said Sawyer.

"California or the Midwest would be very interesting. Obviously, I have to be passionate about it as a Director but also that the team is really excited about and also that works within the larger idea of the IP."

Former Bethesda artist Nate Purkeypule said he'd like a Fallout game in New Orleans, while the idea of New California has already been done in mod form by the ambitious Fallout: New California expansion for New Vegas

Could Obsidian Make Another Fallout Game?

We know Fallout 5 is on the way (in the very distant future), but with both Bethesda and Obsidian now sitting under the Microsoft umbrella, the timing seems perfect.

We've heard lots about a potential sequel or New Vegas remake. Earlier this year, Jeff Grubb said Microsoft was looking at a sequel with Obsidian, however, that was seemingly shot down by the official Obsidian Twitter.

Even if we don't get a full-blown sequel, a New Vegas remake would be on a par with Capcom remaking the old Resident Evil games. We're in the midst of the franchise's 25th anniversary celebrations, so a surprise announcement would be welcomed.

Given the cult status of New Vegas and the fact Sawyer is seemingly eager to return, we'd like to think it's only a matter of time before Obsidian opens up its development vault and fires up the Pip-Boy all over again.
