Recasting isn't such a big deal, is it? Aunt Viv in The Fresh Prince, Magneto and Professor X in the X-Men movies, and the many times Doctor Who has regenerated. However, when it comes to Netflix's The Witcher, it's something we can't quite grasp.

It's the end of an era for the hit series, and although Henry Cavill once pitched himself for a seven-season arc as Geralt of Rivia, he's bowing out with the upcoming season three. Don't worry though, he'll apparently be leaving The Witcher in style.

How Will The Witcher Say Goodbye To Henry Cavill?

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Lauren Hissrich described Cavill's goodbye as a "heroic sendoff." Hissrich has taken some serious flak for Cavill's departure and imminent replacement with The Hunger Games' Liam Hemsworth, but it's a decision that's sticking.

"Henry has given so much to the show and so we want to honor that appropriately," said Hissrich. She promises season three will faithfully adapt Andrzej Sapkowski's Time of Contempt, which is the fourth book in the Witcher series.

She continued, "What is so interesting is that season 3, to me, is the closest thing that we've done as a one-to-one adaptation of the books.

"Obviously, we can't do every page, but Time of Contempt gave us so many big action events, plot points, defining character moments, huge reveals of a big bad. There's so much to do that we were able to stick really, really closely with the books."

It's ironic that Hissrich is promoting season three as the most book-accurate season, especially after she was accused of openly mocking the source material and there were claims the writers "hate" the books

Will Henry Cavill Return To The Witcher?

It remains to be seen how The Witcher handles Cavill's exit, because it's not as simple as killing off Geralt and replacing him with a new Witcher. One thing's for sure though... he won't be back.

It's been a rough month for Henry, and after reports he left The Witcher to return to the DC Extended Universe as Superman, he was unceremoniously given the boot from playing the Man of Steel.

Although this led to hopes he could return to The Witcher, Netflix issued a statement to CNN, confirming season four will move ahead as planned with Hemsworth.

The Witcher fandom hasn't taken kindly to this shakeup, and despite petitions with hundreds of thousands of signatures, it looks like we'll have to make do with this "new" Geralt.

As for Cavill's swansong, we'll definitely be tuning in to The Witcher season three to see if Hissrich lives up to those promises of a heroic sendoff.
