The Outer Worlds 2: Trailer, Platforms & All We Know
The Outer Worlds 2 release date is still up in the air, but that hasn't stopped fans from getting hyped up about the upcoming game. Excitement for The Outer Worlds 2 skyrocketed following its glossy trailer, which gave us a brief look at the role-playing game's intergalactic design and the head-scratching hero. So, without further ado, here's everything we know so far about The Outer Worlds 2 release date, gameplay, trailers, story details, and more.
Is There An Outer Worlds 2 Release Date?
Click to enlargeThere has been no word, as of writing, to a The Outer Worlds 2 release date. The first game only came out in October 2019 so expecting The Outer Worlds 2 in the near future may be ambitious, but given the reveal happened back at E3 2021, we're expecting to hear some more news about the upcoming sci-fi RPG soon.
Another thing to consider is that Obsidian, the developer behind The Outer Worlds games, is currently in the process of creating another huge project. We've got another guide to the Avowed release date, which Skyrim fans may want to keep an eye out for, given how Avowed will be a crossover of the iconic Elder Scrolls game and The Outer Worlds. On top of that, the Starfield release date is slowly approaching, which is set to be gargantuan.
The Outer Worlds 2 Trailer
The Outer Worlds 2 reveal trailer was released in June 2021 at the E3 presentation during a joint press conference with Microsoft and Bethesda. Although short, The Outer Worlds 2 trailer managed to hold its own amongst the other titans in the show, thanks to its cinematic and hilariously honest trailer.
The "old, wise-sounding voice" narrator of the trailer describes the clip accurately. It's comic tone perfectly pays homage to the dialogue seen in the original game: "Suddenly, and for no reason, people running. These pointless slow-motion shots make everything seem cool and should bolster pre-sale numbers."
The clip went on to show an "epic shot" of the game's world in all it's electric blue glory. Of course, as with any sci-fi themed game or film, there is a lot of lens flares. The narrator goes on to say that there isn't much else to share in terms of the game's story or gameplay, but one thing that is completely finished is the intergalactic title.
The Outer Worlds 2 Characters
Click to enlargeThe trailer for The Outer Worlds 2 did provide fans with a brief glimpse of the game's hero via their silhouette as they gazed upon the grand rocky landscape of the new world. However, we didn't get much else because, as the narrator explains: "The developers haven't finished the design."
As for monsters, the trailer included a look at a rock-strewn, purple-veined monster who roars into the face of viewers. Although, the creature's appearance in the game itself is left questionable by the narrator.
No doubt The Outer Worlds players out there will be anxious to see the return of beloved fan favourite Parvati Holcomb. Yet, the official Twitter page for The Outer Worlds shared that the game will feature a "new star system" as well as a "new crew". Sadly, this means that Parvati is unlikely to return.
The Outer Worlds 2 Xbox Exclusive
The Outer Worlds 2 will be an Xbox console exclusive. The news was met with a lot of disappointment from fans of the original game, given how it was available for PS4 consoles and a Nintendo Switch version was released in June 2020.
Of course, the fact that Obsidian were bought by Microsoft in November 2018 has expanded the developer to an interstellar level. Although, this has obviously affected which platforms The Outer Worlds 2 will be available for.
The Outer Worlds 2 isn't the only game to receive criticism from fans for its Xbox exclusivity. The upcoming Elder Scrolls was met with backlash after it was revealed it's also likely to be an Xbox exclusive, thanks to the Bethesda acquisition.
The Outer Worlds 2 Platforms
With The Outer Worlds 2 being an Xbox exclusive, this means the upcoming game will only be available on Xbox consoles through the Game Pass. However, it will available on Windows 10, also. So, the platforms for The Outer Worlds 2 are as follows:

We might need to enter cryogenic sleep before The Outer Worlds 2 is released. However, if the trailer is anything to go by, then the upcoming game promises to jet players off to a mind-blowing world full of incredible new landscapes and quests while keeping the witty dialogue of the previous game.
