Warzone Mobile Game ‘Confirmed By Activision Job Listing’

The gaming gods are smiling down on us all as it looks like the fan-favourite Call of Duty: Warzone is about to be shrunk down to size with its own mobile version. Since the release of Warzone in March 2020, there's been a meteoric rise to the top of the esports scene with the likes of Mark "Zepa" Zepackic and Jordan "HusKerrs" Thomas dominating the charts.

With Call of Duty: Mobile already existing and offering a 100-player battle royale mode, there might be questions about how (or why) Activision would be rolling out a Warzone mobile game. However, with the Verdansk map proving a hit and features like the Gulag becoming a meme-worthy addition to CoD lore, it's entirely possible both titles could exist alongside each other.

Now, an Activision job listing is asking for someone to be a "primary point of contact on [the] Warzone Mobile leadership team". It explained that whoever lands the role will “own product framing and player experience of a new AAA mobile FPS in the Call of Duty franchise". Although it's all hearsay for now, it could be time to start getting excited. Adding fuel to the fire that something is going on at Activision HQ, the job listing has been mysteriously removed from the site.

Call of Duty: Mobile originally launched in October 2019 - which was conveniently around the time of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's release. While the two games could've tied together, TiMi Studios' mobile game was a million miles away from Infinity Ward and Raven Software's Modern Warfare. The idea of a Warzone mobile game would also neatly tie into the upcoming release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and a game that the likes of Dr Disrespect are already tipping to be the "best" Call of Duty game ever.

Activision recently reported how Warzone topped 75 million users for the free-to-play addition, so it makes sense that Activision can see the potential of a battle royale-centric title. It would definitely give a boost to the playerbase that is already logging into Call of Duty: Mobile just for the battle royale elements.

With the return of Zombies to Black Ops Cold War, there's also a chance Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile could fix the controversy surrounding Call of Duty: Mobile Zombies' debacle. Although CoD: Mobile launched with its own Zombies mode, it didn't meet Activision's high standards and was later pulled from the game.

There's a big problem here though. If a Warzone mobile game is snapping at the heels of Call of Duty: Mobile, will Activision slowly phase out the first game? The one thing CoD: Mobile has going for it is the fact it's been downloaded millions of times and earned Activision a small fortune. Who knows, maybe this authentic rebranding of Warzone experience can work hand in hand with the already established fandom Call of Duty: Mobile has earned in the past year?
