The Last Of Us Series Leak Teases Ellie's Mum
HBO's The Last of Us series looks like it's going to give us a blast from the past and introduce some major players that weren't featured in 2013's game of the same name. Although we're promised a game-accurate adaptation, that doesn't mean it's a beat for beat clone of Naughty Dog's classic.
After those plans for a live-action The Last of Us movie never came to pass, it was over to Chernobyl's Craig Mazin to bring the Cordyceps infection to life on the small screen. The might of HBO is stumping up the money, and remembering it's the network that gave us Chernobyl, The Sopranos, and Game of Thrones (for better or worse), there are high hopes.
Is Ellie's Mum In The Last Of Us?
While the crux of The Last of Us' story is about Joel Miller and his fight across the apocalypse, the young Ellie becomes an important figure. By the time it came to 2020's The Last of Us Part 2, it was very much Ellie's story. Her pre-apocalypse history has been fleshed out slightly in the Left Behind DLC and American Dreams comic, but there's definitely room for more.
Given that Ellie's mum died shortly after giving birth to her, the character known as Anna doesn't physically appear in the OG The Last of Us. Now, Twitter user @ViewerAnon has a pretty hefty The Last of Us series leak and claims the debut season will include a flashback featuring Anna.
Mazin and The Last of Us Director Neil Druckmann have hyped the show's accuracy to the original source material, with recent set leaks proving it. Still, the chance to explore the past of these characters and their extended families should offer a new viewpoint. While the games have given us some backstory, critics accused the first game of jumping from the outbreak to the established apocalypse a little too quickly.
What Does Ellie's Mum Mean For The Last Of Us?
American Dreams established that Anna worked as a nurse and was close to Marlene. Merle Dandridge is reprising her role as the leader of the Fireflies in HBO's The Last of Us, and is once again expected to be the main antagonist. With this in mind, it's likely we'll see more of her human side if we get flashbacks with Anna. Although The Last of Us won't release in 2022, a slew of leaks are bringing the show's vision into focus.
Interestingly, this isn't the first The Last of Us series leak that has hinted at flashbacks. We previously covered how the series looks to be giving us more pre-apocalypse scenes, and although we're expected to jump into the action pretty quickly, here's hoping we'll see more from the likes of Joel's daughter, Sarah, as well as potential newcomers like Anna.
