Sony And Microsoft Support God Of War Staff Following Harassment
Yes, we know it can be frustrating when your favourite game gets delayed or goes dark as you're left twiddling your thumbs. Still, does that really warrant you sitting behind your screen and harassing the God of War Ragnarok staff with nudes? No, we didn't think so.
In 2018, Sony Santa Monica changed the God of War franchise forever, as the soft reboot left behind the scorched plains of Ancient Greece in favour of colder climes. The title went on to be held as one of the greatest video games of all time, so it's only natural there's a lot riding on its 2022 sequel.
Why Are Fans Harassing The God Of War Staff?
Posting on Twitter, Ragnarok Cinematics Producer Estelle Tigani said that she has received at least one NSFW picture in her DMs amidst hopes it could coax her into revealing the God of War Ragnarok release date. Apart from being gross in general, it's harassment of the highest order. In 2022, is this really still a thing?
The grim tale caught the attention of 2018's God of War Director Cory Barlog, who launched a tirade at the individual(s) involved. Barlog fumed, "Are you f*****g kidding me with this now??? I cannot believe I even have to say this but don’t f*****g send dick pics to ANYONE on this team, or anyone in this industry for that matter. They are busting their ass to make some for you to enjoy. Show some f*****g respect."
Someone suggested that we should blame the various leakers and industry "experts" who have continuously leaked release dates and announcement reveals. Barlog also responded to this and added: "Don't the answer is not to find someone to blame or focus hate on. Maybe just pay it forward and treat the people that make the things we love with some human decency and respect. this is not a battle, we are not at war. we are just trying to make + enjoy things together."
Leave The God Of War Staff Alone
For once, all sides seem united. It's a sad turn of events that Tigani or anyone involved with Ragnarok should be facing any form of harassment. Microsoft's Phil Spencer agreed with Barlog and threw in his own views saying: "So well said Cory. Can't wait to enjoy GoW when it comes out. And thanks to you and the team for the amazing work that goes into creating things we love. Thank you." While Sony Ponies and Xbots will continue to drum up a rivalry between PlayStation and Xbox, the above only proves there's no bad blood.
Sadly, the Sony Santa Monica staff have had it rough. When Ragnarok was delayed from its original 2021 release, Barlog asked irate gamers to blame him and not send death threats to staff. He's also asked everyone to "be patient" after the reported release date announcement was delayed. Despite Barlog seemingly mocking the situation a while ago, there's no need to send him or his staff abuse. Put your peckers away, boys.
