The Ghost of Sparta is known for having a bit of a temper, but given what's going on with the God of War Ragnarok release announcement (or lack of), we're starting to see where Kratos is coming from with his anger.
With 2018's God of War being rightly heralded as one of the greatest video games of all time, all eyes are on Sony Santa Monica to deliver with the long-awaited sequel. It's true that four years isn't that long between games, but with so much hype being drummed behind Ragnarok, Sony has become its own worst enemy.

The question of the God of War release date is one that is presumably haunting the nightmares of Jim Ryan. Gaming expo and Sony showcases come and go, but there's been barely a whimper from Ragnarok since its glossy September reveal of an official name.
We were expecting a God of War Ragnarok release announcement any day now, but apparently, that's not the case. Twitter account The Snitch gave a cryptic tease that June 30 was the big day for the Ragnarok release announcement, and yet, here we are. Ragnarok Producer Cory Barlog posted a June 29 tweet and asked us to "please be patient" - promising that "things will be shared at the earliest possible moment they can be."
This isn't much reassurance to those who've been waiting months for an update. The last we heard from the game was a May blog post about accessibility options. Barlog also rattled a few cages when he recently mocked our frustration at Ragnarok's radio silence. These days, the PlayStation Twitter account can't make a single tweet without the replies being filled with Kratos gifs and sassy remarks of "Ragnarok when?"

And so, we reach the million-dollar question. Just what is the God of War Ragnarok release date? Although September was a popular choice that continued to do the rounds, November seems to be the new top choice, with some pencilling November 18 in their diaries. Launching in November would leave Ragnarok clear to sweep the Christmas season and give the PlayStation exclusive a strong start to 2023.
As much as it would make sense to launch earlier and make as much money as possible before the year is out, the last thing we need is a botched launch akin to Cyberpunk 2077. It's best to let Ragnarok brew for as long as possible while still sticking to the promised 2022 release. While games like Starfield and Breath of the Wild 2 have dipped into 2023, Ragnarok still looks destined to swing a Leviathan Axe at the competition this year.
