Rocket League developers have announced that after nearly five years, that the game will be going free to play on the Epic Games Store.

In addition to going free to play, there will be a revamped menu, improving features such as tournaments and challenges. Furthermore, cross-platform progression will be introduced, which comes as a welcome feature for PC and console players alike.

Existing players who have played online will receive an array of customisation rewards, such as:

  • Golden Cosmos Boost
  • Dieci-Oro Wheels
  • Huntress Player Banner
  • "Est.20xx" player title, which will display the first year that you played Rocket League
  • 200+ common items upgraded to 'Legacy' quality

You will also be granted all Rocket League-Branded DLC which is released before free to play becomes available.

With the transition to the Epic Games Store, Rocket League will become unavailable to download through Steam, however, if you already have it downloaded on Steam, you will have no problems accessing the full game. Whether you're on Steam or through Epic Games Store, the game will work exactly the same.

The official date is undetermined, however, it has been announced that the transition will be completed this summer, hinting at the change coming before the end of August.
