Speed, power, and a certain knack for having the utmost swagger. It's a theme that has become the core of Rocket League's gameplay and selling point, and it is echoed through a range of international superstars that are pouring into the title by backing teams and organisations.

Whether it be David Beckham’s Guild Esports, SMPR, who have English footballers Dominic Calvert Lewin and Harry Maguire behind them, or Boston Scott signing as a professional substitute for Dignitas, the sporting world is putting foot to pedal to race into Rocket League, and now possibly the biggest global athlete has entered the scene.

Usain Bolt Joins Wylde As Co-Owner

The eight-time Olympic gold medalist, Usain Bolt, has laced his sprinting boots once again to step into esports, and has become co-owner of Irish organisation Wylde.

Wylde, said to have "deep roots in the Caribbean", fields teams in Rocket League, VALORANT, and Rainbow Six: Siege, and are a relatively small organisation, boasting just over 3,500 followers on Twitter - a stark contrast to Bolt’s 4.8 million.

"As co-owner and an active member of the leadership team, Usain will be involved in a range of activities focused on elevating WYLDE’s growing brand," Wylde said in a statement. "Usain Bolt will support WYLDE’s mission to identify, empower and support talent whilst adopting a strong commitment to diversity and inclusivity," they continued.

Bolt’s arrival in esports comes just weeks after another icon entered the space, although the organisation may be the most well-known side in the world. Hollywood’s own Calvin Broadus Jr, now known in the industry as FaZe Snoop joined the clan in March, alongside releasing his own Doggy Dogg skin in Call of Duty.

Bolt has previously partnered with Epic Games to have his own skin released in Fortnite, so it might not come as a surprise if he uses his pull with the developers to have a Wylde wrap added to the esports shop in Rocket League, or released in a lightning bundle.

"WYLDE is on a journey to becoming one of the biggest brands in the fastest growing sport in the world. I look forward to working with the WYLDE leadership team to help our players to reach their potential, while also taking care of their physical and mental wellbeing." Bolt said.

Wylde’s Rocket League roster is their most well-known team, with the organisation also boasting a women’s team. With Bolt on board, Wylde may now be destined for bigger and better things.
