Metroid Prime has become something of a legend at this stage, what with having heard nothing about the series for a while. So, we think it's about time we're due a Metroid Prime remaster.

Of course, the fourth instalment of the game is still on the way, but as the development of Samus' 3D return was completely restarted, it could still be some time before we actually see it in action. Until then, fans have hopes for a totally different approach.

A remaster of the first three Metroid Prime games has been high on fans' wishlists for some time, and though Nintendo isn't often ones to indulge fans' calls for remasters - it looks like it could actually be on the cards.

Is A Metroid Prime Remaster Coming In 2022?

An industry insider has claimed that (just like we've been asking for) a remaster of Metroid Prime is on the way. Better yet, it could be slated for release by the end of the year. Jeff Grubb revealed the news on his Game Mess Mornings podcast, suggesting that it'll be a big overhaul of the original game and serving as a very substantial remaster.

"I could say that I've been told pretty definitively that Metroid Prime Remastered is going to be one of their big holiday games," he says. "In the past this is something I've heard is in the works, they've had things happening with that game.

"Now I've been told that their plans are to release that game this holiday, I think almost certainly to line up with the 20th anniversary in November. So that's happening and they need to tell us when that release date is." But, fans are wondering about a couple of other games too.

Where Are The Metroid Prime 2 & 3 Remasters?

The news of the remaster has got a lot of gamers excited, but for those crossing their fingers for a complete trilogy of remasters, the question remains - where are Metroid Prime's two sequels? Well, it seems Grubb has the answers.

"Metroid Prime 1, my understanding is that's getting the big remaster treatment, and then Metroid Prime 2 and Metroid Prime 3 are sort of getting… they'll probably get like, updated controls and things like that. But they're not getting quite the same overhaul that Metroid Prime 1 is getting."

It's an interesting suggestion, and it'll be compelling to see if this comes to be true - because fans have waited a long time for this. Even if we're not quite getting exactly what we wanted, we can't wait to see what a revamped Samus looks like in her new-gen armour.
