A New Sid Meier’s Civilization Game Is On The Way
It's all change over at Firaxis Games, and after 25 years with the company, Studio Head Steve Martin is leaving - to be replaced by Heather Hazen.
With a new vision, Hazen vows to "build the best strategy games on the plane." As part of this, there's a brand-new Civilization game on the way.
What Is The New Civilization Game?
As part of the old guard of strategy game, Sid Meier's Civilization came out in 1991. The last title (Civilization VI) came out in 2016, and as Hazen aims to craft a new empire, the next chapter of Civilization is a welcome return.
According to Firaxis, Ed Beach - Franchise lead Designer on Civilization VI - will continue as Creative Director. Hazen has impressive credentials as Executive Producer on Fortnite for Epic Games, as well as Plants vs. Zombies and Bejeweled at PopCap Games.
Alongside Martin, XCOM Director Jake Solomon is also parting ways with Firaxis. To date, Civilization has sold over 65 million copies, while Civilization VI was the best-selling entry in the franchise.
Hyping its release, Hazen said, "I'm thrilled to have this opportunity to carry on the studio’s storied legacy, beginning with the announcement that Firaxis is in development on the next iteration of the legendary Civilization franchise.
"I'm lucky to be working with some of the best developers in our industry, and we have plans to take the Civilization franchise to exciting new heights for our millions of players around the world."
It's not just Civilization, though, and with Firaxis promising to keep supporting Marvel's Midnight Suns, the studio is powering forward into the next generation of gaming as a strategy stalwart.
