We may just be beyond the release of Metroid Dread, but fans are already looking forward to the future of the franchise. The new title blew players away and gave much hope that the Metroid series may not just be one for the cult followers. That could well stretch to the massively hyped Metroid Prime 4.

The series has made some controversial choices when it comes to Samus’ story, but one thing that has remained consistent is its gameplay that brilliantly brings the Metroid world to life via the FPS genre. Unsurprisingly, fans can’t wait for another taste of the action. However, you might have to wait a lot longer than expected for a Metroid Prime 4 release date.

Nintendo has revealed new details about some of its upcoming games as part of a financial report for the second quarter. It’s fairly standard practice for the business, presenting a lot of financial jargon - but luckily for us, it means that we get a peek behind the curtain at some expected release dates.

We know this already, but the remainder of 2021 is practically set in stone - Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are both set for release on November 19 with Big Brain Academy: Brain vs. Brain on December 3.

Next year is full of excitements, but more vague windows - Triangle Strategy is still set for March 4, whereas the peculiar Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re-Boot Camp are branded with a thin “spring 2022” date.

Coming generally in 2022 at some point are Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, Splatoon 3, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 and Bayonetta 3 - and if these remain true, it could make next year very big indeed.

But, from this point onwards, things start to get even vaguer, to a concerning degree.

Metroid Prime 4’s Release Window Is Still Undecided

In the very depths of the report is one game with a release date that is yet undecided - Metroid Prime 4. There’s not even an estimated date of 2023 (which is probably a fair guess of when the game will see a release), so this is bound to distress some fans. When will we get a look at the game beyond its title card, while the title could still change?

It all remains to be seen, but it certainly feels like we’ve got a lot more waiting to do on the front of Metroid Prime 4. Sorry, superfan, Samus' armour might be a little rusty by then.
