The maestro of the macabre could be setting the stage for a major comeback, as the latest swirling rumours claim Hideo Kojima is working on a PlayStation 5 reboot of the Silent Hill franchise. The internet has been whipped into a frenzy, with long-standing whispers that Konami's stagnant series is about to be resurrected.

We're covered a lot of rumours that Silent Hill - or multiple games - are in the works, however, no one quite seems sure who is behind the project(s). Adding fuel to the fire, there were those bizarre rumours that PlayStation's Abandoned is a secret Konami or Kojima game. The man himself has doused those flames, but now, reports of a Kojima-led Silent Hill are back.

What's the Kojima rumour?

Last week, there were multiple outlets reporting that Konami is planning to bring back Castlevania, Metal Gear, and Silent Hill. However, things took a leap when Gematsu claimed it's actually Hideo Kojima working on Silent Hill's much-anticipated revival.

According to the site, the former Konami bigwig is handling the next Silent Hill, which will also be a PlayStation 5 exclusive. Remembering Kojima's first outing under the steam of Kojima Productions was a PS5 exclusive in the form of Death Stranding, it makes a lot of sense. Then again, Death Stranding was a divisive title that's also led to reports Sony denied his next pitch for a horror game.

If Kojima is coming back to Silent Hill, could this be the news we've all been hoping for, and could he finally bring P.T. back from the grave? It was only recently that Norman Reedus left us on read with a cryptic tease that the forgotten demo for Silent Hills could find a new lease of life.

Will Kojima helm the next Silent Hill?

It all sounds very promising, but don't get too excited for Pyramid Head's return just yet. Going against the idea of a Kojima Silent Hill, prominent gaming insider Millie Amand simply said "No" when asked about the idea. Amand is usually on the money with PlayStation news, so we're going to err on the side of caution.

Earlier this year, the composer of Silent Hill teased an announcement this summer - saying "the one you’ve been waiting for". This never came to pass, and despite rumours of several Silent Hill games still doing the rounds, no one is quite sure what's going on.

The last Silent Hill game was something of a disappointing affair, with 2012's Book of Memories being a far cry from the franchise's heyday. It's inevitable that Silent Hill will return someday, but it's just a matter of when. That tormented town has laid dormant for far too long.
