The upcoming Halo series is interesting in concept - but fans are already pretty concerned.

The show, set to come to Paramount+ very soon, is fascinating, as it intends to shine a spotlight on Master Chief outside of the canon and timeline of the games, even though the narrative of the games are deeply compelling and more than worthy of a direct adaptation. It's this fact that has fans concerned - and rightfully so. There's a lot that could go wrong here, but we're remaining as hopeful as we can.

But it is getting increasingly more difficult, as it turns out, the show's creators didn't care much for the games… at all.

It turns out that the Halo series' team elected to completely ignore the Halo games during the process of creating the show, claiming that doing so would limit their scope.

In an interview with Variety, Steven Kane suggested that to remain too focussed on the games themselves would mean they wouldn't be able to create something unique.

"We didn't look at the game," he said. "We didn't talk about the game. We talked about the characters and the world. So I never felt limited by it being a game."

It's an alarming thing to say, especially as many fans are hoping for something that reflects the games that they remember and love. But it doesn't end there.

Kiki Wolfkill - Following Halo Games "Wasn't Serving The Medium"

According to executive producer Kiki Wolfkill, looking at the game would make the creation of the show too difficult.

"Early on, we were thinking about doing something that could tie very closely with the game," she said. "What we were finding was, tying to verbatim stay with everything that'd come before wasn't serving the medium. It also wasn't serving the creative teams and their need to express a story and build the world through their eyes."

This is likely to cause something of a rift among fans, with some hoping for an exciting new story and others just wanting what's familiar. Either way, this is an interesting take - and we hope and pray that it pays off for the series.
