After rumours galore, Microsoft has officially announced that Halo Infinite Multiplayer has launched today on Xbox and PC. Halo Infinite is set to release on December 8th, which was the original release date for its free-to-play multiplayer component as well. However, in light of the 20th anniversary of both Xbox and Halo: Combat Evolved, Microsoft has pulled its release forward in a (sort-of) surprise announcement.

Halo Infinite Season One: Heroes of Reach was officially unveiled at the Xbox Anniversary Celebration live stream. The announcement closed out the live stream, informing players that they could download the multiplayer immediately, giving players access nearly a full month before its intended release date.

A Halo Infinite leaker claimed that an early release was coming just this week, which made sense to a lot of fans. Fans had speculated that the full Halo Infinite game would launch on the anniversary before it received its December release date. However, in the announcement the Halo Infinite campaign was reconfirmed to arrive on December 8th.

The announcement was also preceded by the official Halo TV show teaser trailer, which leaked online earlier today. The show will launch on Paramount+ in 2022, however didn't reveal much else. We did get our first look at the infamous green Mjolnir armour for Master Chief, which looks to be a faithful recreation from the games.

Xbox and Halo fans alike will be ecstatic to receive this early release surprise, especially considering that the game is free-to-play. And while the game is still officially in beta, Halo Infinite Multiplayer had a series of successful and smooth betas on the run up to its release. This counters the buggy and controversial Battlefield 2042 betas, which had many fans rightly worried.

You can download Halo Infinite Multiplayer today for free on both Xbox and PC, and get stuck into the Season 1: Heroes of Reach battle pass.
