GTA 6 Might Be The Last Main Game Of The Franchise
Grand Theft Auto is one of Rockstar Games’ most lucrative series. Hell, it’s one of the most lucrative game series in the entire industry. The looting and shooting simulator swept the gaming industry upon its launch and ever since has dominated the market, with GTA 5 remaining Rockstar Games’ biggest earner since it was released and has gripped the Twitch masses once again in recent years. So, Rockstar would be mad to throw it away, right?
Well, as tension mounts in the department of GTA 6 leaks and rumours, it’s entirely possible that the upcoming title could be the very last mainline game in the series.

Click to enlargeAs part of a contribution to DualShockers, the popular leaker and data miner Tom Henderson has suggested that the upcoming Grand Theft Auto could be the last in the series. Henderson is a recognisable name, especially in the world of FPS titles, but it’s for good reason, as he was the first to reveal major details about the upcoming Battlefield 2042.
He suggests that to dodge the crunch culture of gaming and look after the well-being of Rockstar employees, reducing their work to maintaining the online elements of the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead series would be the best action to take.
Why Should Rockstar Have To Make GTA 6?
Click to enlargeThe company won't have much reason to keep releasing the games beyond exercising their creative chops and making the games that they want to create - if their excitement for the series expires with the sixth mainline entry, then they’re very much free to call it quits. As Henderson addresses, money is not a problem for Rockstar Games, nor is it expected to be in the future.
GTA Online and Red Dead Online keep the Rockstar company card stuffed, and it’ll keep the company whirring for years to come without a shadow of a doubt. The production of GTA 6 is more of a passion project than it is an attempt for sales, so the game will take as long as it has to for production, and if the series ends with 6, so be it.
It’s sad to think the series could be coming to an end, but if the series is stagnating for Rockstar Games, it’s best that it does. This might not be the case and the team could still love making the games, but if they don’t, it might be time to send gaming’s most controversial series down the river. So long, old friend.
