Leakers Reveal GTA 6 'Release Date' And It's A While Off

It's been a long time since we had any crumb thrown our way from Rockstar in terms of what's happening with Grand Theft Auto 6. And, well, today is no different. However, we do have our ever-reliable leakers, who use their contacts and other means to get information out to us mere mortals.

ViewerAnon, a leaker who according to Dexerto has been a solid source of info for Star Wars and Marvel movies in the past, has Tweeted saying that GTA 6 is due for release in 2023. In response to a Tweet saying: "Gamers Suspect GTA 6 Is Dropping Soon After Rockstar Posts Ad Looking Game Testers", ViewerAnon replied: "Define "soon." Companies test games for *years*. (And last year Rockstar internally had GTA VI set for a late 2023 release)."

Obviously this date could be pushed back, but it's good to know that we're getting somewhere.

When Will GTA 6 Be Set?

A reputable Grand Theft Auto leaker recently claimed that the next game in the series will be set in the modern day, tweeting: "it's not set in the 1980s and is modern". We've been waiting for the next game in the series for what feels like forever, although it has only been eight years since GTA V became the highest-grossing entertainment project of all time. There have been many rumours, from there being a female protagonist for the first time ever, to whether or not it will be set in the 1980s.

The aforementioned leaker Tom Henderson Tweeted dispelling the latter, seemingly confirming that the next Rockstar offering will be set in present day.

What Else Do We Know About GTA 6?

An interesting patent from parent company Take-Two Interactive has started doing the rounds on Reddit. Here, Rockstar devs seem to be working toward a new system that would trademark a "system and method for virtual navigation in a gaming environment". Breaking it down to what that could mean for GTA 6 NPCs, the system could theoretically allow NPCs to react with the world around them.

As you probably know, NPCs in vehicles can only interact with objects directly around them. The patent says that: "conventional systems only provide limited resources" in terms of automating movements. Games can currently only handle a limited number of vehicles moving on a road at any given time. In reality, it would mean "each NPC can define its own specific characteristics", and effectively, have his or her own personality.

If the patent goes ahead, the system hopes to implement "a realistic virtual world that is not limited by hardware or software limitations." Either way, the "System And Method For Virtual Navigation In A Gaming Environment” patent sounds like a game changer.
