Gaming subscription services are all the rage these days, and while it looks like Microsoft's Game Pass has absolutely annihilated Sony's PS Plus, there could be a new contender on the horizon.

As the likes of Nintendo's Switch Online service has championed our love of retro gaming, Rockstar Games could be the latest to muscle into the market with legacy titles.

Offering more than just the Grand Theft Auto games, a Rockstar Game Pass could bring back forgotten favourites like Bully and Manhunt.

Is Rockstar Working On Its Own Game Pass?

We're still a long way out from GTA 6, and with 2013's GTA V being the most profitable entertainment product of all time, it's no prepare the developer is trying to secure its future.

According to noted Rockstar insider, Tez2, a recent GTA Online survey has teased some more bonuses for GTA+. There's no word on what this involves, but with it asking whether you'd want "free access" to classic Rockstar titles, we can definitely guess.

The mention of classic games definitely hints that a catalogue of older games will arrive as part of a subscription service package. Sony recently did the same by allowing retro PS1 games like Toy Story 2 on PS Plus, while Rockstar definitely has enough games to fit this remit.

It's unclear whether this would be full-blown remasters or simply ports, but given Rockstar's history of disappointing us, we'd imagine the latter.

Bizarrely, the survey comes as part of a questionnaire asking whether we'd prefer free fast travel around the GTA 6 map or free access to classic games. Is this going to be one of those things where you could play Wolfenstein 3D inside Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus?

Don't Get Your Hopes Up For A Rockstar Games Pass

Away from the streets of San Andreas, Rockstar has delivered classics like the Max Payne and Red Dead games. We recently championed the idea of a Red Dead Revolver remake, but we doubt this is what Rockstar is pointing toward.

More likely, we'd get simple ports of old games in all their dusty glory... with a premium price tag. Then again, Rockstar overlord Take-Two Interactive has previously downplayed the idea of a subscription service model.

CEO Strauss Zelnick previously said he was happy to support the likes of Game Pass but reiterated new titles would never get a day-one release. Considering this would likely be a shrewd move to ensure players pay for your subscription service, things don't quite add up.

At the end of the day, Rockstar is just asking for feedback and will use it as a way to figure out how it can squeeze more pennies out of you with GTA+. We'll go back to our dreams of a new-gen Bully remake or a proper GTA Trilogy remaster that isn't a janky mess.
