As we wait for even a sniff of The Coalition's Gears of War 6, Xbox's first-party titles seem to be on some shaky ground right now. The last big outing was Halo Infinite - a game that brought a new lease of life to the franchise that many feared was on its last legs. Fans got excited for what was next from the PlayStation rival, but now, we're cursed to wait. A while.

Both Starfield and Redfall have been pushed back to 2023, leaving the slate of Xbox-exclusive titles looking pretty dry on the AAA front. But it means that years to come could swing back around to make up for it - and one of Xbox's biggest franchises could be working on yet another instalment.

Is Gears Of War 6 In Development?

It looks as though a brand-new game in the Gears of War franchise could officially be on the way. Although there's been plenty of buzz about Gears of War 6, a new job listing has hinted that the game has finally entered development.

Xbox's first-party developer The Coalition is known as the team behind the series, and it looks to be hiring for a Motion Capture Technician, as spotted by SegmentNext. Interestingly, it comes after a December 2021 job listing that was looking for a Live Design Director for the Gearsverse.

The role is specifically for the Gears of War series, and though the title itself isn't confirmed, it's thought that this role being opened up means that the beginning of development on Gears of War 6 (or whatever it sends up being called) is underway.

Will Gears Of War 6 Be Made In Unreal Engine 5?

If you weren't already excited to kick more Locust butt, the next title in the Gears of War series should be developed in Unreal Engine 5. It's one of the many projects The Coalition has pledged to move into the new engine. Along with the debut of its cinematic test demo titled The Cavern, the team announced last year that it would tackle multiple projects over into UE5.

It looks as though Gears remains in safe hands, and if the next entry does end up getting released in the new engine, it could be the most technologically advanced and impressive game yet. The problem is, the fact The Coalition is only just recruiting for Gears of War 6 means the wait between 2019's Gears 5, its 2020 Hivebusters DLC, and the next mainline entry could be longer than first thought. At least that rumoured Master Chief Collection for the original trilogy should tide us over.
