2022 will likely be remembered for two games, and no matter what your thoughts, that's Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok. However, as these juggernauts duke it out for game of the year, one reviewer isn't happy.

As the sequel to 2018's God of War - held as one of the greatest games of all time - there was a lot riding on Ragnarok. Thankfully, most agree it deserves its crown and is a worthy successor to round off the franchise's Norse mythology

Is God Of War Ragnarok The Worst Game Of 2022?

Across the board, Ragnarok got rave reviews and scored more perfect 10s than we care to count. However, GameCentral reader Ashton Marley has now called God of War Ragnarok the worst game of the year.

Slamming everything from "horribly slow" pacing to repetitive gameplay, they also call out the final boss battle and say that while the game feels "too long," the ending is "rushed."

We'll admit some elements, like controlling Atreus are weaker, but there's a sense that this scathing review is simply here for clicks. We're reminded of when one journalist received death threats over their Ragnarok review.

It's ironic that when the title launched, GameCentral awarded Ragnarok a beefy 8/10. Something clearly doesn't add up here, but we guess it's one person's way of earning clout by being edgy.

As you can imagine, the comments quickly turned ugly. One critic wrote, "Reads like clickbait to me. Even for anyone that didn't enjoy the game it can't possibly be the worst game you've played this year unless it's the only one you've played all year."

Another added, "To say it's the worst game you've played all year is or at least should be laughable," while a third concluded, "What a coincidence, this is the worst review I read this year. It's contrarian just for the sake of being contrarian."

Will God Of War Ragnarok Win Game Of The Year?

Looking at "bad" games of 2022 is a tough one because it's all subjective. You only have to look at the polarising reviews of Sonic Frontiers to see this in action. Also, remember that Sonic was technically better than Elden Ring

The Game Awards are just around the corner, and it's here that Ragnarok goes head-to-head with Elden Ring for Game of the Year. Let's not count the others out though, as there's stiff competition from the likes of Stray and A Plague Tale: Requiem.

No matter your views on Ragnarok, we think you'd struggle to find many more than that reviewer that it's the worst game of the year. Come on, that's got to go to Diablo Immortal, right?
