The Call of Duty developers might be winning some fans over with a brand-new Fortune's Keep Warzone map coming in Season 4, but the long-time franchise faithful won't have the wool pulled over their eyes that easy. In fact, it's quite the opposite. The new flock of Warzone geese might have their feathers ruffled by a new battle royale map, but Season 4 has not even made a splash in the multiplayer pond, and the fan base is going quackers.

The official roadmap for Vanguard Season 4 was recently unveiled by Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software, covering the basis for the entire franchise, although Vanguard has played second fiddle to the BR, and not for the first time.

With Fortune's Keep plastering connotations of the rich plundering from the poor, the irony has wrung true for Vanguard players, who now think that the lack of multiplayer content means Sledgehammer Games has "given up" on the game.

Vanguard Season 4 Has Hardly Any Multiplayer Content

The roadmap for Vanguard Season 4 indicates that the multiplayer content starts and ends with two maps, one of which is a low-effort remaster of the World War II sea-based battlecruiser USS Texas 1945. The "Mercenaries of Fortune" season has seemingly plundered half of the usual map pool additions, leaving just the re-designed map to be rolled out on launch and a further Pacific landscape named Desolation coming in the mid-season update some five weeks down the line.

The usual roadmaps of the past, spanning back to the Modern Warfare 2019 era, have all included four multiplayer maps (two at launch, two in mid-season). In comparison, Season 4 of Black Ops Cold War also saw four maps added (Collateral, Hijacked, Rush, and Amsterdam).

Additionally, only two weapons will be added throughout the whole season, whereas the same time last year had four. The cut-down on guns also affects Warzone too, although the mass overhaul of the metas every season continues to freshen the gun pool, whereas Vanguards Automaton/MP40 combo continues to become dreary.

Vanguard Season 4's Lack Of Multiplayer Content Angers Fans

Having seen Vanguard's alarmingly small update, popular content creator "XclusiveAce" has bid the question of "have they given up?". His latest YouTube update has claimed, "it almost feels like they don't want us to play multiplayer anymore and they are trying to push us over to Warzone".

A popular thread on Reddit also saw fans vent their frustration. Many fans became confused as to why Sledgehammer picked USS Texas when players have been yearning for London Docks, while others said, "They gave up on the game after season 2".

Of course, the devs have finally integrated round-based Zombies, which has gone down a treat with the Shi No Numa remake, although this still doesn't compensate for the multiplayer additions - or lack of.

Vanguard fans will now likely be hit with a 20GB update for the sake of one map and one weapon upon launch. But all is good, you'll also have a brand-new blueprint gun game mode. Woop.
