Someone get Robert Downey Jr. on the phone because an Iron Man video game is officially in development. Although Iron Man video games are nothing new, we're used to lacklustre tie-ins to the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. Iron Man 3: The Official Game was hardly a hit, and neither was Iron Man VR, so let's hope something better is on the horizon.

EA Motive is currently in "early development" of an Iron Man video game. The studio is known for helping develop 2017's Star Wars Battlefront II and Star Wars: Squadrons, as well as delivering the 2023 Dead Space Remake. This could be one of its biggest projects to date, though.

What Is The Iron Man Video Game?

The official EA site confirms the Iron Man video game is a third-person, single-player, adventure game. It goes on to explain how the superhero outing "will feature an original narrative that taps into the rich history of Iron Man, channeling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark, and enabling players to feel what it’s like to truly play as Iron Man."

An impressive team is working on the Iron Man game, with Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy's Olivier Proulx being joined by "a dedicated team of passionate industry veterans." The Iron Man game comes just after Amy Hennig's Black Panther and Captain America WWII game gets the green light.

Discussing what's on the way, Marvel Games Vice President Bill Rosemann said, "We are thrilled to collaborate with the talented team at Motive Studio to bring their original vision of one of Marvel’s most important, powerful and beloved characters. Their experience delivering both established entertainment worlds and thrilling gameplay — combined with their authentic passion for the armored icon — will fuel our quest to deliver a love letter to a legendary hero in the form of the ultimate Iron Man video game."

Did EA Reveal Iron Man Two Years Ago?

There had been a lot of talk about an Iron Man video game, but in a market dominated by Insomniac Games, we'll admit this one has come out of the blue. Interestingly, EA might've teased the project in a 2020 live stream that showed some very Iron Man-esque mechanics. Either way, we'll be looking out for an Iron Man release date.

We can barely move for Marvel games these days, but thankfully, we've come a long way from The Amazing Spider-Man 2. It remains to be seen whether Motive's Iron Man is the next Marvel's Spider-Man or just another Marvel's Avengers, but whatever Tony is cooking up in his workshop, we'll definitely be suiting up to give it a go.
