The Stardew Valley Ancient Seed is an artefact needed to complete the Museum collection in the game. Upon a full collection the player will receive a Stardrop as a reward from Gunther. Not to be confused with Ancient Seeds which are growable seeds made from this artefact, the Ancient Seed is a separate item in Stardew Valley. To find out how to locate an Ancient Seed in Stardew Valley and how to convert and grow them into the second most profitable crop in the game, read on.

The ancient seed can be found through artefact spots in Cindersnap Forest or the mountains in all seasons. Artefact spots look like wiggling worms or twigs reaching up through the earth and can be dug up with a Hoe.

They may also be found in Artefact Troves, Fishing Treasure Chests or dropped from Grub and Fly type monsters in the mines. Once donated to the Museum, Gunther will reward the player with growable Ancient Seeds. This will look different from the original as it will come in a blue packet. Crucially, you will also receive the recipe for turning more ancient seeds into growable ones for yourself if you happen to find more.

As mentioned, Ancient Fruit is grown from Ancient Seeds and is the second most profitable crop in the game and can go a long way into accumulating the gold needed to purchase the Golden Clock and achieving 100% farm perfection.

To make an Ancient Fruit farm the first step is to make Seed Makers. These turn harvested produce back into seeds but can produce more than one seed at a time, and therefore double your input.

The recipe for the seed maker is given to the player after achieving farming level 9. It only takes 25 Wood, 1 Gold Bar and 10 Coal so it is possible to make a few at once.

If you grow Gunther’s initial seeds and turn them into more seeds at harvest by putting them into a Seed Maker, and then duplicate this process a few times you’ll eventually have enough seeds to grow a farm out of them.

The Ancient Seeds can be planted any season except Winter. Many players utilise the Greenhouse to plant this crop as it supplies a steady income once a week, all year round.

The farm at Ginger Island can also grow crops in any season so it is possible to turn this space into a giant Ancient Fruit farm and make a large sum of money. The crop does take 28 days to mature, but the payoff is worth the wait.

You can also speed up this wait with the Agriculturist perk given to the player at farming level 10, this perk makes crops grow 10% faster. By also using Deluxe Speed Gro (the recipe is given at level 8 of farming) this will also speed the process by a further 25%. Even better if you have access to Hyper Speed Gro as this accelerates the growth time by 33%. However, this is a later game mechanic as it is given to the player in Qi’s Walnut Room on Ginger Island.

Although the Rare Seed is the most profitable crop in the game, the Ancient Seed is a better option to farm as it continues to reproduce after the first harvest, unlike the Rare Seed that only produces one harvest.

Stardew Valley Ancient Seed As A Gift

As the ancient seed is technically classed as an artefact before turning into a growable seed, most villagers dislike it as a gift except for the Dwarf and Penny who like it. However, if grown into an Ancient Fruit instead, many more villagers will like this as a gift.
