The Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl exclusives are here, as the fourth generation of Pokémon games has returned. Originally released in 2007 for the Nintendo DS, the Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are bringing back the varied roster of pocket monsters to collect, along with some other brand new features. While new players can explore Sinnoh for the first time with these faithful remakes, fans of the originals can also embrace the nostalgic atmosphere. Which game you should buy, however, depends on your preference in the Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl exclusives.

As is the series norm, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will feature version exclusives, meaning that certain Pokémon can only be obtained by choosing the version you want to play. With that in mind, you might be struggling to decide which game is for you, so here’s everything you need to know about version exclusives in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

The key thing to remember with the Pokémon series is that the story will revolve around the legendary Pokémon featured on the game’s cover art. In this case, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond will focus on Dialga, the Pokémon that controls time. Dialga is a Steel/Dragon type, making it viable against most typings, with its only weaknesses being Fighting and Ground. Since Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will be taking advantage of concepts introduced in more recent games, Fairy Types will be made available, but they won’t scare Dialga due to its Steel attributes. The legendary Pokémon also boasts excellent stats, most notably its Special Attack at 150, making it a serious threat in battle.

Dialga is then complemented by an excellent roster of Pokémon exclusive to Brilliant Diamond. At the moment, Cranidos, Rampardos, Stunky, and Skuntank are confirmed to be Brilliant Diamond version exclusives; however, it’s safe to assume that version exclusive Pokémon previously available in the original Diamond and Pearl will be making their return.

As these games are being advertised as faithful remakes, expect to see the likes of Scizor, Aggron, Tyranitar, and more in Brilliant Diamond. These three Pokémon, in particular, are considered fan favourites - often appearing in Pokemon’s competitive scene. Although Pokémon Sword and Shield will continue to be the game used in tournaments, it’s still worth adding one of them to your team in Brilliant Diamond, as they have the potential to be a real asset to your team.

Interestingly, some of the Pokémon available in this version of the game are Steel types, which is obviously reflective of Dialga’s typing. Here is the full list of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond exclusives:

Pokémon Shining Pearl Exclusives

The star of the show in Pokémon Shining Pearl is none other than Palkia, the Pokémon that controls space. Palkia is a Water/Dragon type, a strong combination, as mixing Water with Dragon nullifies the former’s usual weakness to the likes of Electricity and Grass. In the same regard, adding Water to the mix negates Dragon’s frailty to Ice types, but Palkia might run into some trouble when facing Fairy and Dragon type Pokémon. Despite this, Palkia is still relatively strong, having the same Special Attack stat as Dialga at 150, and its signature move, Spacial Rend, can deal a significant amount of damage.

During your Shining Pearl adventure, expect to see Shieldon, Bastiodon, Glameow, and Purugly as version exclusives. However, as previously mentioned, it’s highly likely that Pokémon featured in the original Pokémon Pearl will be making an appearance. There is a lot to love in this version, as you will be able to add Pokemon such as Salamence, Slowbro & Slowking, Mismagius, and Walrein to your team. Salamence in particular is extremely appealing to some players, due to its high stats and wide move pool, so Shining Pearl might seem like an easy choice to some.

In conjunction with its counterpart, this version contains some exclusive Water-type Pokémon that make direct reference to Palkia. Without further ado, here is the full list of Pokemon Shining Pearl exclusives:

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond And Shining Pearl Exclusives: Ramanas Park

Recently, it was revealed that legendary Pokémon from other generations will be made available as post-game content in an area called Ramanas Park. To no one’s surprise, the concept of version exclusives applies here as well. Ramanas Park is a brand-new area introduced in the remakes, replacing the Pal Park from the originals, and will allow you to enter various caves to summon iconic legendary Pokémon by using special slates.

At the time of writing, ten version exclusives for this feature have been revealed, but there might be more secrets to discover. In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, expect to encounter the likes of Mewtwo, Ho-Oh, Raikou, Entei, and Suicune, while in Pokémon Shining Pearl, Rayquza, Lugia, Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres will be obtainable. Here is the full list of version exclusive legendary Pokémon, including Dialga and Palkia.
