Depending on if you take your time or not, The Gunk should take you anywhere from four to six hours to complete. We took our time to explore every nook and cranny of the world presented, and even acquired all upgrades and collectibles, meaning our initial playthrough came in at just over four hours. Plus, as a relatively cheap title from an indie developer, and a launch title for Xbox Games Pass, there aren't too many hurdles to playing The Gunk, so the length isn't a huge drawback.

If you find the experience difficult, it may take you up to the higher end of the spectrum to finish it, but most players should have no problem getting through its chapters. There isn't much in the way of optional content, and the collectibles aren't specifically out of the way either, as each one can be found multiple times across the game. This means the game is fairly linear throughout, aside from times when you can fast travel to previously explored areas.
