Not sure how the House of Ashes save Rachel decision works or what you need to do to keep her alive? You're not the only one. As with the prior games in the series, death is not to be taken lightly. Your decisions will greatly impact who lives and who dies as you play through The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes. The how to save Rachel decision in House of Ashes is stumping a lot of players, which is where this guide comes in. Here's everything you need to know about the House of Ashes save Rachel option.

Knowing how to save Rachel is one of the most difficult decisions in House of Ashes because there are a number of correct decisions that need to be made, including some that seem like they'd lead to her certain death. Sometimes, what seems like the right decision to be making will kill off that beloved player you’ve been trying to hold onto. Not that Rachel is much of a likeable character, but she’s still an important one.

There are various scenes in which Rachel and the characters surrounding her must make dialogue decisions that can impact whether she lives or not. Additionally, there are various quick-time events (QTEs) that require players to be paying attention and prepared to press the correct button at the right time. This guide explains each scene where impactful decisions and QTE’s regarding how to save Rachel need to be carried out.

House Of Ashes Save Rachel: The Temple

Eric must choose to cut the rope on Rachel during The Temple scene in House of Ashes.

While playing as Eric, players have the choice of cutting the rope and letting Rachel fall, or not cutting the rope and having it snap anyway. The decision here doesn’t make a difference as Rachel will survive either way, so you might as well cut the rope and get it over with.

House Of Ashes Save Rachel: Bloodbath

Rachel can choose to abandon or help Clarice during the Bloodbath scene in House of Ashes.

Rachel can choose to save or abandon Clarice after she helps her out of the temple. Clarice is looking worse for wear, and ultimately, the decision players make here will not impact Rachel’s life. However, if players choose to abandon Clarice, this does give Clarice a chance of living, at the cost of another character… so, to be safe, players will likely want to abandon Clarice regardless.

House Of Ashes Save Rachel: The Assault

During The Assault scene in House of Ashes, Salim can shoot the monster attacking Rachel and save her.

During a portion of The Assault, players will act as Salim and have to partake in QTEs. When engaging in these, there’ll be a choice in which monsters to attack. Make sure that Salim shoots the monster that is attacking Rachel so that she doesn’t become a victim to it. Rachel will become infected, but she will survive.

House Of Ashes Save Rachel: Strange Aeons

Rachel during the Strange Aeons scene in House of Ashes can be either desperate or commanding.

During this scene, Rachel will go to knife the white phosphorous. Instead of commencing with this, do not do it at all costs and wait out the timer on the action instead.

Once dialogue options appear between Rachel and the others regarding whether or not Jason should kill Rachel, choose the ‘Desperate’ option twice in a row in order to spare her. Rachel will then go with Nick and Salim to try and find a cocoon, but then Eric will use UV light to burn the infection out of her and save her.

House Of Ashes Save Rachel: Final Stand

Players must complete QTE's to save Rachel during The Last Stand scene in House of Ashes.

This scene is all about pulling off the QTE’s successfully, so players will need to take caution and pay attention. One mistake could lose a life that they value, such as Rachel. As monsters attack, each character alive will have to carry out a couple of QTE’s and if any of them are messed up… well… players know what will happen. If trying to save Rachel specifically, make sure to pay special attention when her turn rolls around.

With that said and done, most characters in House of Ashes should hopefully escape the mysterious temple and the terrifying eclipse sequence relatively unscathed. More importantly, players will escape with Rachel alive. Maybe she’ll have the chance to rekindle her marriage with Eric now, who knows?
