The Dead Space remake launched on February 27 and has already rolled out its first patch (1.03), much to the relief of players experiencing graphical issues and bugs. The Dead Space 1.03 patch mainly addresses the stability issues across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. For a shortlist of all the major fixes in the Dead Space remake patch 1.03, read here.

The patch comes at a well-needed time as some players have reported issues with shaders loading into the game for buildings and set pieces. It appears others have also reported bugs with the running mechanic and have also experienced black screen glitches.

The bulk of the 1.03 patch seems to prioritise stability and graphical issues for players. The main notes outline these improvements:

  • Improved PS5 performance-related issues.
  • Fixed graphical issues.
  • Added a new option to disable VRS (Variable Rate Shading) on PC.
  • Fixed various glitches and bugs.
  • Fixed a problem related to the black screen issue.
  • Added stability and performance fixes.
  • Added general stability fixes.

The patch is available now for PS5 and PC players and will release for Xbox players later this week. The original patch post can be viewed on the Dead Space Reddit here, where the EA Community Manager promises that the dev team is continuously looking to support the game post-launch and are actively reviewing any issues with the game.

It seems as though the option to disable VRS on PC may fix the shaders issue players were encountering. VRS is a performance-increasing option that curtails shading in favour of a boost to performance in certain areas. Most times, this setting can work wonders if it targets areas where shaders are less necessary or out of range. If applied aggressively, however, you can lose graphical quality dramatically. With the update, PC players can now disable the option in favour of enhanced graphics.
